Growth in the US West Transportation Market is a critical component of GHD’s overall strategy in the Americas. The US West Region is looking to bring onboard a motivated Senior Transportation Engineer/ Technical Design Lead- Bridges to partner with our Market Leader and Business Leader to advance all aspects of the expansion of GHD’s Bridges practice throughout the Region.
Bridges have been part of the GHD Highways, Roads, and Bridges (HRB) Business Group (BG) since its initial roll-out. Our practice has matured to a level that requires acute attention to bridges and a specific strategy developed to take advantage of our connection to the highways/roads, rail, and trail arenas of the transportation market. Bridges includes transportation type structures including retaining walls, noise walls and related transportation structures. GHD has exposure to these arenas through the Federal, State, Municipal and private sectors.
This position includes active participation in US West technical and project delivery forums and an opportunity to support the vision for growth within the US West Region and the company. This position will be based out of one of our Southern California offices (LA, Irvine, Long Beach, San Diego).
Specific responsibilities in this role will include:
Strategy and Business Planning
- Technical execution, planning and budgeting for the Bridges practice.
- Management and leadership for oversight of the current bridge elements in active delivery of projects in the West from initial concept studies through construction documents and delivery.
- Support the development of annual tactical plans aligned with the overall strategic plan for the region.
- With the help of others, support the addition of bridge expertise and capacity in the West.
- Initiate the internal development of best practices for bridge design and professional services delivery in the West and in concert with best practices currently in use within the Americas and beyond.
Winning Work
- Through strong technical expertise and project delivery, support the initiation and effective relationships with key clients in Southern California such as LACMTA, SCRRA, OCTA, RCTC, SBCTA, VCTC and SANDAG.
- Collaborate with the Highway, Roads, and Bridges (HRB) Business Group to help position for bridge related opportunities with Caltrans and local County & Cities agencies.
- Collaborate with the Regional Transportation Market Lead, Sector Lead(s), and the Rail & Transit Business Group on elements of the Bridges practice in the West Region.
- Participate in visibility activities including conferences as appropriate.
- Seamlessly collaborate with leadership and resources across GHD to bring solutions to local clients
- Support the development of scope of work packages, budgets, and progress proposals in accordance with the GHD Limits of Authority
Project Delivery:
- Leading best practice project delivery, making key technical contributions to projects and coordinating the work of team members to deliver creative solutions
- Embracing established project management best practices and advocate for the adoption of standard methodologies within your sphere of influence at GHD
- Directing the project teams, administering contractual aspects of the project, and having a client facing role when applicable.
- Working with project directors, project managers, project teams, and BGLs in other BG’s to improve job delivery skills within the Business Group
- Support the development of pricing, scoping and winning strategies for amendments and follow-on work related to bridges and transportation projects.
- Ensure adherence to GHD’s QA/QC plans including meeting established Quality KPIs
People:
- Supervising and managing technical resources in the bridge practice is not currently anticipated in this role but may be added in the future depending on qualifications and need of the business. Examples of the needs may include:
- Purpose-led communications with other Business Groups to inspire the team and enhance the Employee Experience (EX)
- Develop and mentor bridge and bridge aligned staff within the Business Group
- Collaborate with and mentor our Young Professionals to provide experience and exposure to a wide variety of projects
- Accountable for implementing quarterly check-ins in the Business Group including conducting the check-ins for direct reports
