Senior Platform Engineer | Bankrate
Red VenturesAbout the role
*This role is open to remote or hybrid candidates (East coast preference), with hybrid being central to our New York, NY or Charlotte area offices. Must be able to work Eastern Standard Time hours.
Bankrate is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help build the internal platforms, tooling, and standards that enable our product engineering teams to ship software safely, consistently, and at scale. Our Platform Engineering team partners with product teams to define shared patterns, automation, and guardrails, empowering teams to own their deployments and services while benefiting from a reliable, secure, and well-supported platform foundation.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and developer experience. You’ll focus on building systems that improve reliability and productivity across the organization, rather than managing day-to-day deployments for individual teams.
What You’ll Do
- Design and evolve shared platform patterns and standards for infrastructure, service operation, and delivery workflows used by product teams.
- Build internal tooling and automation that make those patterns easy to adopt and consistently apply.
- Partner with application engineers to understand friction points and translate them into scalable platform solutions.
- Design and maintain reusable CI/CD frameworks and workflows using modern automation and pipeline tooling.
- Create and maintain infrastructure-as-code abstractions using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation, enabling teams to provision and operate resources safely and consistently.
- Improve containerized application platforms using technologies like Docker and Kubernetes/ECS, focusing on tooling, documentation, and operational patterns.
- Embed security, observability, and reliability best practices directly into platform systems and templates.
- Participate in incident reviews and reliability discussions to identify systemic improvements that can be addressed at the platform level.
- Continuously improve developer experience by reducing cognitive load, shortening feedback loops, and eliminating repetitive work.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of ownership, clarity, and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, cloud, or systems engineering roles.
- Strong experience designing and operating cloud-based engineering systems (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent, including building reusable modules or abstractions.
- Experience supporting containerized workloads and service platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or similar).
- Solid software engineering experience in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Python, Go, JavaScript).
- Experience designing, measuring, and operationalizing service reliability using concepts such as SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, and applying those signals to platform design decisions.
- Experience implementing observability practices using tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, or Cloud-native monitoring solutions.
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and how platform systems enable product teams.
- A security-first mindset, with experience embedding guardrails into shared systems.
- Strong communicator who can partner across teams to align on platform patterns, influence adoption, and drive consistent engineering practices.
