Director of Laboratory Services

Description

Summary:

Responsible for the clinical direction of the Laboratory including all day-to-day operational issues. Ensures compliance with Federal, State and other regulations. Performs clinical laboratory procedures as needed to ensure efficient daily workflow and as required to maintain own competency.

Requirements

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university or 10 years experience and successful completion of an accredited Medical Technologist program. Master's preferred in related field. 2. Licensure: MT, ASCP or equivalent.

Experience Required:

Three to five years of supervisory experience in an accredited laboratory. Previous clinical experience required.

4. Ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure or in emergency situations.

Cognitive Requirements:

1. Ability to prioritize workload.
2. Ability to take in, process and apply clinical information in a wide variety of patient care situations.
3. Ability to evaluate effectiveness/appropriateness of services, including resource utilization and allocation.

Physical Demands:

1. Visual acuity; necessary for computer terminals.
2. Adequate manual dexterity necessary for specimen collection, handling and operating lab equipment.
3. Some occasional light lifting.

Environment:

1. Stress level -- moderate to high.
2. On feet most of the time.
3. Exposure to chemical or biohazardous material and malodorous conditions.
