Case Western Reserve University, Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a postdoctoral scholar position. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewing for an additional year. The Postdoctoral Scholar will lead innovative research projects focused on the intersection of advanced computational methods development, multi-omics modeling, and complex inflammatory disease biology with special emphasis on sepsis endotyping, as well as other research areas and disease applications in the Brubaker Lab. The position offers opportunity for advanced training in interdisciplinary science, translational research, and research computing. The scholar will design and execute methods for patient stratification using multi-modal immunophenotyping and clinical data toward the goal of transforming the diagnosis and management of sepsis and other acute critical care illnesses.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Technology and Methodology Development: Independently develop and optimize novel computational and analytical methods, including unsupervised learning, classifier development and testing, and development of advanced multi-modal data integration and analysis techniques. (50%).
- Data Integration and Analysis: Conduct rigorous analysis of multimodal data across the scholar’s primary project, support other funded projects in the lab, and develop new directions of interest to the Scholar’s career development. (20%)
- Collaboration and Mentorship: Collaborate within an interdisciplinary research environment, provide mentorship to junior lab personnel, and actively participate in team-driven research projects (20%).
- Lab Organization and Other Duties as assigned: Assist in the general maintenance of the laboratory, development of grant proposals and manuscripts, and organization as needed (10%).
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience with developing advanced computational workflows to handle heterogeneous biological datasets.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
Required Skills
1. Experience developing or utilizing advanced computational modeling techniques on heterogeneous biological datasets.
2. Proficiency in single-cell RNA sequencing, high-dimensional data analysis, bioinformatics tools, and programming languages (R, Python).
3. Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, and troubleshoot complex workflows.
4. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret and integrate complex datasets.
5. Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
6. Strong record of peer-reviewed scientific publications.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills; capable of clearly presenting complex scientific data and collaborating effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
