The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) provides exceptional customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff while supporting a positive patient experience in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role performs a variety of administrative and clerical duties to ensure efficient operational flow within the department. The HUC supports the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU), a 24-bed critical care unit specializing in the treatment of patients experiencing complex and life-threatening cardiac conditions. Responsibilities include communication coordination, patient record management, order processing, and supporting the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe, high-quality patient care
A caregiver in this position works evenings, 3:00pm—11:30pm. Weekend and holiday rotation required.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED
1 year of experience in a customer service-related role
Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
College degree
Microsoft Office experience
Physical Requirements:
