About the role

Position Overview

Power your future with Qualus in our Project Management Organization as an Assoicate Project Manager.  Under general direction, assists in managing a large portfolio of electric utility projects to ensure all phases of approved projects are completed efficiently and within scope, on schedule, and within budget. Works closely with personnel to engineer, design, site, permit and construct assigned projects. Assists project managers with securing approval for permits and licenses, budgets materials, contractors, and other resources. 

Responsibilities

Primary duties include overall responsibility for the management of all aspects of assigned projects including managing the development and process for evaluation of bid documents for engineering, design and construction, as well as for the procurement of material and equipment; and ensuring all aspects of the projects are documented and completed in accordance with company policies and all regulations and laws. Responsible for independently managing smaller projects, demonstrating proficiency in the Project Lifecycle and project controls requirement.

  • Assist with providing Project Team leadership and management through design, construction, and close-out phases of the project.
  • Use Stage Gate Processes (SGP) to implement scoping, establish and track project schedules, execute engineering, construction and close out the project.
  • Create PDCRs for internal and external projects Develop class estimtes in align with the Stage Gate process
  • Assist with creating Project Execution Plan (PEP)
  • Schedule and participate in constructability reviews
  • Develop construction plans that includes a schedule, resource plan, and outage plan
  • Track and report progress to schedule utilizing Primavera P6
  • Create RFPs and follow all procurement policy requirements for executing contract services
  • Track and coordinate material deliverables
  • Participate in Lead pre-construction safety kick off meetings
  • Engage project team members to deliver necessary schedule, status and costing updates.
  • Monitor/report project team performance from a schedule, cost and quality view.
  • Assist with managing Successful Project Execution.
  • Project Issue Document(s) and Issue Resolution
  • Bi-weekly Status Reports.
  • Conference Records for all meetings.
  • Open, Close and Manage Work Orders as Required
  • Manage Project Work Order via Cost Sheet.
  • Follow up on close out activities via business unit processes.
  • Timely Invoicing for Work Performed
  • Actively Participate and Provide Working Forecast/Project updates via Monthly Budget Meetings.
  • Utilize Jurisdictional Status Report format as method of communicating project status to stakeholders, including but not limited to: Capital Projects; Transmission PM&C; Distribution PM&C.
  • Update monthly status and project costing. Develop communication plans for communicating project status to interface between all stakeholders. The Contractor(s) will need to collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including but not limited to the Managers of Project Controls, Project Managers, Managers of Capital Projects, FBP (Financial Business Partners), Project Controls team members, supply chain partners, and other key project stakeholders as required to ensure schedule and budget certainty.

Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge in the theoretical and practical application of project management technique and tools including project management software.

  • Requires knowledge of design and construction of electric transmission, distribution and/or substations.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferred); Business, related discipline, or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience in electric utility construction or project management experience
