OVERVIEW

University Relations builds Santa Clara University’s excellence and character by strengthening relations with alumni, parents, and friends of the University, raising public awareness, and increasing private philanthropy. The development division has been recognized with the CASE Educational Fundraising Award, an honor given each year to superior fundraising programs at educational institutions across the country.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Prospect Management and Analytics (PMA) team supports fundraising efforts at Santa Clara University by providing customized information and analyses that contribute to building and maintaining donor relationships and strengthening connections to the University. The PMA team works collaboratively with each other, the development officers, other teams in University Relations, and offices across campus to ensure the University meets its fundraising goals.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Prospect Management and Analytics with a dotted line to the Director of Prospect Management and Analytics the Associate Director is responsible for supporting SCU’s fundraising programs to meet the campus fundraising goals and objectives. The Associate Director works in close partnership with assigned development officers and/or units to oversee proactive prospect identification, prospect research, portfolio development, and moves/prospect management. In addition, the Associate Director manages large and complex data projects supporting the strategic and tactical planning and operation effectiveness of the university’s fundraising.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Major Responsibilities

  • Independently lead large and complex projects that have multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

  • Assist and advise the Senior Director in developing and implementing PMA guidelines and procedures, priority setting, and implementation of new initiatives.

  • Independently design and implement comprehensive data-mining and proactive prospect identification projects for various fundraising initiatives.

  • Initiate and lead projects to make PMA’s work more efficient and effective in order to improve service to assigned development officers and/or units.

  • Proactively identify and research successful and generous prospective donors whose philanthropic interests match the University’s priorities and initiatives.

  • Research, analyze, and maintain information on prospective donors backgrounds, interests, and capacity to give using a variety of electronic databases, publications, and on-line services.

  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews with assigned development officers, to advise prospect strategy, track pipeline development, and optimize portfolios.

  • Analyze broad data sets to identify trends and develop actionable recommendations for PMA, development officers, and University Relations leadership.

  • Serve as an independent, internal consultant to several development officers and/or units; provide targeted services that support fundraising strategies and priorities.

  • In addition to partnering with development officers, the Associate Director will also have liaison relationships on behalf of the PMA team with various departments within University Relations and across campus.

  • Interpret and analyze biographical and financial information on individuals and where appropriate, corporations and foundations, based on fundraising strategies and objectives.

  • Respond in a timely manner to all research inquiries, which may include financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, business and professional affiliations, areas of interest and other university affiliations.

  • Support and promote the PMA program, including conducting prospect strategy meetings, prepare routine reports of prospect information, and training development officers and other staff on prospect management guidelines and procedures.

  • Assist Senior Director in mentoring and training PMA team members.

  • Coordinate proactive use of the CLARA (CRM) database to support moves management, including moves tracking, proposal tracking, and task management.

  • Assist the Senior Director in developing, documenting, and implementing policies and procedures for managing prospect information.

2. Other Duties As Assigned.
