The Clinical Director provides operational leadership and direction to the patient care areas reporting to the position. In addition to direct operational responsibilities, the Clinical Director is a member of the senior Patient Care Services leadership team responsible for execution of strategic initiatives, project leadership, and oversight. The Clinical Director will oversee one of two focus areas:
Clinical Directors reporting to Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) will hold primary focus in clinical areas that report to respective ACNO and operational, administrative leadership, financial, and professional practice/development duties as outlined below for those clinical areas.
“Operational” Clinical Director reporting to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) will hold primary focus in operational projects, processes, business plans and metrics for scope of all clinical areas reporting to CNO, and will collaborate with Clinical Director and ACNO to ensure effective alignment, development, implementation, and communication of integrated PCS initiatives.
Operations
• Develops, implements and assesses the effectivenesss of operating plans for clinical areas and nursing functions so that strategic objectives are realized and care is provided according to professional standards and guidelines.
• Provides oversight, support and coordination for daily operations of inpatient nursing and the broader patient care support organization.
• Validates the adequacy of staffing plans and recommends changes as appropriate including overseeing the management of patient throughput and capacity.
• Ensures that processes guiding the provision of care are appropriately implemented and evaluated (regulations, standards, policy/procedures) utilizing the professional practice model and unit based care delivery support.
• Ensures responses to unplanned occurrences, emergencies, or disasters that have the risk and potential for impacting delivered services.
• Provides back-up and support as needed for Nursing Supervisors
• Coordinates patient care with other healthcare disciplines, and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care.
• Assists w/all business operations aligned w/PCS department and associated ACNO. Business operations include bur are not limited to assistance, under the direction of the ACNO, in workforce engagement, employee engagement, and talent management.
• Maintains and enhances department level AND unit level scorecards and dashboards reflecting the strategic plan and KPIs. Participates in monitoring, identifying, and reporting quality, safety, and performance related issues; actively participates in monthly Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement at the ACNO and departmental level. Continually improve processes with medical and clinical staff related to the cardiac and vascular programs. Select and measure quality indicators and manage to meet established internal & external benchmarks.
Administrative Leadership
• Embraces the Magnet Standards consistently engaging staff in decision making whenever possible.
• Collaborates with service line leadership as appropriate.
• Provides leadership to a defined group of nurse managers, advanced practice providers, educators, and/or other leadership personnel and staff members to ensure business objectives are achieved;.
• Participates in nursing administration, governance committes, hospital, medical staff committees, task forces and/or special projects as assigned or as appropriate to area of expertise or responsibility.
• Ensures compliance with all regulatory bodies (CMS, Joint Commission, ODH) and thatlicensure and accreditation requirements are met for areas of responsibility.
• Works with Risk Management to support a highly reliable and zero defect environment and Clinical Quality Committees to coordinate PI activities within areas of responsibility.
• Delegate appropriate responsibility and accountability for management activities and provide coaching and training to ensure direct reports maintain/achieve necessary competencies for their job functions.
• Supports professionalism through ethical conduct, appearance, positive communication, attendance and holding self accountable for work completion.
