About the role

   

Join the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA) Pharmacy team and play a key role in delivering safe, accurate, and timely medications that support exceptional patient care. Working alongside pharmacists, veterinarians, and veterinary technicians, you'll help ensure efficient pharmacy operations while providing outstanding service to clients and hospital teams. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare, process, and dispense inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, including compounded and non-compounded medications, under pharmacist supervision.
  • Perform sterile and non-sterile medication compounding in accordance with established procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate medication and inventory records, including stocking automated dispensing systems, rotating inventory, monitoring expiration dates, and ordering medications and supplies.
  • Support medication safety and regulatory compliance through proper labeling, storage, documentation, controlled substance management, and maintenance of pharmacy and compounding areas.
  • Provide professional and responsive customer service to clients, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, students, staff, and external pharmacies.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of pharmacy technician experience in a retail or hospital setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • At least 6 months of compounding experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from a nationally accredited program or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Ability to obtain NYSED Pharmacy Technician License within 3 months of hire date.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize competing tasks.
  • Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with pharmacy policies and regulations.
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use pharmacy and hospital software systems.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to lifting up to 50 pounds and standing for 7-8 hours a day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with USP <795>, <797>, and <800>

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
