About the role
D-Wave is seeking a hands-on and technically skilled Fabrication Hardware Engineer (Senior Support Engineer) to support our fabrication group and assist in the day-to-day operations of our lab in Palo Alto, California. This individual will be a critical member of the team, ensuring smooth and efficient operation of thin film deposition tools and metrology systems, while maintaining high standards in data integrity, system performance, and lab safety.
What you'll do
- Perform regular and preventive maintenance of the physical vapor disposition (PVD) systems
- Operate and monitor PVD tools and associated equipment
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact on the lab floor—acting as the “eyes and ears” of the lab
- Proactively monitor lab infrastructure and system health
- Maintain, analyze and report data sets for PVD runs and film metrology results
- Coordinate logistics including shipping, receiving, and material transport to and from vendors
- Ensure all processes align with lab safety protocols and cleanliness standards
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering 5+ years’ experience in a similar role or Associate’s degree with 7+ years of experience
- Able to lift 50lbs or more and perform hands-on physical tasks in the lab
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to obtain U.S. Federal security clearance
- Attention to detail with steady hands and a commitment to cleanliness and safety
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with basic tools and lab instrumentation
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Bonus if:
Exceptional candidates may bring additional experience in the following areas: - Familiarity with Tango PVD systems in both software/hardware
- Understanding of vacuum systems and thin film integrated circuit processes
- Experience working in a cleanroom environment and following cleanroom protocols
- Proficiency in Excel and data analysis and data organization
- Experience with metrology tools
- CPR certification
