Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist II with project management experience to be based in our Glen Allen, VA office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line. This position is expected to begin immediately.
In this role, the selected applicant will be responsible for working on investigation and remediation projects while managing AECOM staff, subcontractors, technical delivery, stakeholder engagement/communication, and financial management.
The selected candidate will also assist/lead project and program management with design and implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation.
This position will also assist in the performance of regulatory compliance inspections, sampling, and reporting associated with the implementation of permit and/or regulator requirements for commercial/industrial facilities.
The job responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:
• Performs standard scientific work requiring application of techniques and procedures.
• Detects problems when using standardized procedures because of the condition of sample, difficulties with the equipment, etc.
• Conducts specific phases of projects for more experienced scientists.
• Proposes appropriate analytical methods and techniques. Assists in providing advice and consulting services within scope of scientific knowledge.
• Draws conclusions and makes recommendations based on analysis.
• Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
• Works under general supervision. Leads project field tasks with minimal supervision. Serves as on-site Health and Safety representative and supervises a variety of specialist contractors during project execution.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS in Geology, Environmental Science or related field + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Valid U.S Driver's License and as a condition of employment, must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records Review
- Current OSHA 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training
- USCS Soil Classification Certified
- First Aid / CPR Certified
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science or related field
- 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting with focus in site assessment and remediation
- Proficient technical writing (remedial investigation reports, corrective action studies, etc.)
- Fluency with CAD or GIS
- Experience with groundwater modeling and numeric computing programs
- Current OSHA 30-Hr Construction Training
- Familiarity with State and Federal Environmental Regulations
