Director - Student Support Services - Early Childhood Education & Special Education

    

Job Description:

Responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing all instructional and operational activities of the district’s Early Childhood Education programs and Special Education. This includes managing special education preschool, Child Find, and UPK programming while ensuring strict compliance with state and federal laws. The role aligns early childhood and special education initiatives with the district's strategic plan and promotes strong community relations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: A Master's Degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education is required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in early childhood education or special education, and 2 (two) years of experience working in a leadership/administration role is required.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional lifting five (5) to ten (10) pounds
- Frequent sitting; occasional bending, squatting, or standing

ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Requires travel around a 900 square mile district using personal vehicle.
- Typical educational/school facilities with moderate noise level

    

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

    

Responsibilities:

- Compliance & Evaluation: Evaluate the efficacy of early childhood and special education programs and facilities using data to improve services for all children, including those with disabilities and other specialized needs.

- System Leadership: Apply a systems approach to the development of early childhood and special education programs and facilitate effective systems change.

- Strategic Alignment: Ensure preschool curriculum meets district standards for child-centered instruction, integrating cognitive, motor, and social development.

- Financial Management: Implement school district budgeting and resource allocation, including UPK funds  and fees.

- Personnel Management: Recruit, retain, and evaluate qualified personnel, including coordinators, licensed staff, and classified staff.

- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies and engage parents and families in the delivery of early childhood and special education services.

 - Cross Department and School-based Leadership Collaboration:  Develop and maintain relationships with leaders, administrators, individuals and groups. Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation resulting in positive outcomes.

- Program Oversight: Coordinate and supervise early childhood staff in professional development, health, related services, and special education.

- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

    

Work Experience:

Seven (7) years of experience in early childhood education or special education | Required Two (2) years experience in a leadership/administration role | Required

    

Certifications:

Administrator LIcense - Director of Special Education - Required or evidence of being in the process of obtaining. - Colorado Department of Education, CO Principal Licensure - Colorado Department of Education

    

Education:

Master's Degree: Early Childhood Education, Master's Degree: Special Education

    

Skills:
