Senior Principal Oracle Database Administrator Infrastructure
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, maintain, and control a variety of databases with PTC’s Infrastructure database team. Work as a thought leader within PTC’s Infrastructure team to help manage and oversee the corporate database infrastructure segment. This position is primarily focused on management of Oracle databases but also MSSQL and Postgres. The position will provide 24X7 operational support for databases which run high visibility applications for PTC’s business units- Finance, Business Analysts, Sales and Marketing. In addition to operational DBA tasks, the position will work closely with the Security team for annual audits for compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cloud Infrastructure Management:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of public and private cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud, and on-premises infrastructure.
- Maintains the operations of a mixed Oracle database environment- single, RAC and DG instances.
- Maintain the operations of SQL Server (Enterprise and Standard)and Postgres database systems
- Design, implement, and optimize database solutions, including backups, restores, and disaster recovery processes. Maintains the operations of single Postgres and MSSQL databases
- Implement industry best practices for monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Collaborate with other operational Oracle DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams and external customers to resolve problems with application/database systems.
- Installation, Configuration, Upgrading and Patching of databases and related products
- Develop and implement Archiving, backup and recovery strategies
- Ability to complete tasks and produce appropriate deliverables within project time schedules
- Responsible for database monitoring, troubleshooting
- Configuration, backup/recovery, sizing, space management, diagnostics, and proficient with the use of Oracle's Enterprise Manager/ Cloud Control.
- Automation & DevOps Integration:
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate provisioning, configuration, and management of cloud resources.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate cloud infrastructure into CI/CD pipelines to streamline application deployment and scaling.
- Design and implement self-service automation frameworks for internal teams to deploy and manage their own infrastructure.
- Security & Compliance:
- Designs, implements, and periodically tests the database backup and recovery procedure in conjunction with other IT staff.
- Implement robust security policies across all cloud environments, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and secure networking.
- Ensure compliance with relevant security frameworks and regulations (e.g., GDPR, SOC2, HIPAA).
- Work closely with security teams to respond to vulnerabilities, audits, and incident management
- Standardization & Governance:
- Standardize infrastructure components and configurations across all public and private clouds, ensuring consistency and security compliance.
- Define, document, and enforce policies and procedures for cloud management, security, and governance.
- Create and maintain comprehensive cloud architecture documentation and infrastructure standards.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- 10+ years as an Oracle Database Administrator
- B.S. degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in managing and automating cloud infrastructure in public clouds like AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud.
- Strong proficiency with automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or CloudFormation.
- Deep knowledge of cloud-native services (EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, etc.) and infrastructure best practices.
- Experience with cost management and optimization tools, including cloud cost calculators and monitoring services.
