About the role

The Center for Campus Life seeks an Orientation Graduate Assistant to assist with the coordination and planning of MCPHS University’s Summer Orientation Programs, aide in the creation of orientation leader training and leaderships development resources, support orientation team supervision, and help with the coordination of fall welcome week activities. This is a summer position, with an anticipated start date in May, running through August. 

 

Overall Orientation Duties

  • Works with the Center for Campus Life Director, Assistant Director, and 6 Orientation Team Leaders, (students who assist with the development and coordination of Orientation).
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of all MCPHS Orientation programs: new students, families and guests, transfer and international students.
  • Demonstrate competency in the management of the Orientation budget.
  • Coordinate with catering for all food orders for training and Orientation sessions.
  • Assist with communication to campus partners participating in Orientation
  • In charge of the oversight of the Orientation e-mail and assist with the overall communication of the Orientation program.
  • Provide additional support as needed to the Center for Campus Life.
  • Night and weekend hours expected.

Assessment

  • Develop assessment surveys for attendees of Orientation: new students, their family and guest members, and campus partners supporting the Orientation program.
  • Develop assessment surveys for the Orientation team on their experience and student leadership growth through this experience.

Orientation Team

  • Coordinate the OL Bonding Day and OL Banquet.
  • Create a session on a topic of interest to you, and present to orientation leaders during OL Training.
  • Support supervising the Orientation Team Leaders with the offices’ Director and Assistant Director; facilitating weekly one-on-one meetings, notetaking, following up with task support and completion.
  • Oversee the Programming & Logistics Team Leaders in the creation of a procedure for pre-session preparations and organization- ‘campus prep’.
  • Work with Programming & Logistics Team Leaders to prepare, communicate, and execute the University's Services & Support Expo
  • Manage conflict among Orientation Leaders and new students as it arises throughout program duration.

Programming

  • Assist with the programming of Welcome Week Activities with Team Leaders (brainstorming events, activities, and tickets, connecting with vendors, and completing contracts and payments).

Social Media/Webpage

  • Creates and implements social media campaigns to market and promote Orientation sessions.
  • Social media – day of posts/TikToks during training and orientation sessions
  • Assist with updating the department website, promotion, and publication materials.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current graduate student who is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education and/or student affairs administration, education, counseling or related field concurrently while in the position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure

Compensation

The pay range associated with this posting reflects the amount the University reasonably expects to pay for this role at this time. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.


Hiring Range: $17.00/hour
