As the Quality Control Technician, you will be responsible for collecting and compiling data used to evaluate fertilizer product performance and ensure regulatory compliance. In addition, the Quality Control Technician is involved in the assessment and qualification of raw materials and will work with the Process Engineer or other production personnel on projects related to statistical process control or design of experiments to improve the first-time pass rate of the site. This position will report to the Quality Manager and the individual will work under minimal supervision with a degree of latitude and creativity established through demonstration of knowledge, skills, and abilities.This position is located at our North Charleston, SC facility and will primarily focus on the quality assurance of products produced at this site
I’m interested! What will I get to do in this position?
- Responsible for testing raw materials, in-process samples, and products, using standardized test methods, procedures, and work instructions. Generates reports on these analyses and communicates results to appropriate groups.
- Responsible for the calibration, maintenance, and operation of nitrogen analyzers, ICP-OES, moisture analyzer, and other instrumentation for the analysis of raw material, in-process samples, and products.
- Keeps all laboratory instrumentation and equipment calibrated and in working order. Troubleshooting analytical equipment is an essential part of the position.
- Maintains databases and paper files documenting test results, experimental reports, and instrument calibrations.
- Collects data for and provides input on non-conformances.
- Trains new personnel on QC test methods, procedures, and work instructions.
- Collects, organizes, monitors, and distributes information related to quality and process improvement functions.
- Maintains an inventory of laboratory supplies and places orders when supplies are required.
- Daily communication with the Quality Manager to analyze results, determine fate of materials, and discuss laboratory management.
- Initiates and coordinates quality-related data from production, service or process improvement activities.
- Manages all QC retain samples and ensures that materials are properly stored and discarded after their expiration date.
- Work with minimal supervision while adhering to all health and safety precautions applicable to a chemistry laboratory.
- Other duties as required.
What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role?
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field, or will achieve by Dec 31, 2024, and/or relevant work experience.
- Ability to work up to 2 weekends per month as needed.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment is preferred.
- Prior experience with nitrogen analyzers, ICP-OES, and/or dissolution testing is preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is required.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Capable of multitasking and managing the workload efficiently under pressure.
- Ability to move up to 25 lbs and to remain in a stationary position for long periods throughout the shift.

Compensation at ICL: If you are hired at ICL, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. We also offer a generous benefits package (more information on benefits listed below).
Salary Range: $58,000 to $71,000
Annual Bonus Target: 5%, subject to plan provisions.
