The Executive Director for Secondary is an experienced principal supervisor who assumes full ownership for the outcomes of a set of schools in DPS through the supervision, evaluation, coaching and development of the Directors of Schools, while also serving as a key contributor and leader to the DPS Central Office and steward of Denver Public Schools’ strategic roadmap, initiatives, priorities and Office of Schools goals.
Reporting to the Senior Executive Director, the Executive Director is accountable for a network of schools serving students in a designated region or grade-level. This role will strategically leverage dedicated network and district resources to effectively support students and schools. With school principals serving as critical agents in accomplishing the district’s vision, the Executive Director’s most important role is supporting, developing, coaching, and supervising School Directors, who are the support, coach and evaluator of school principals. The Executive Director of Schools will lead a team of School Directors and collaborate with DPS departments to meet the strategic goals of the district by:
- Implementing a strategic plan to anchor the work of the network in improving student achievement,
- Identifying, preparing, placing and retaining great principals in network schools and
- Creating a climate of professional collaboration by establishing structures that foster shared learning and resource exchange across networks and schools.

What You'll Do:
- Leads alignment of schools and central office to a shared belief in and ownership of the academic and whole-child success of every child; establishes and drives accountability to equity through shared goals, strategic planning, change leadership, school improvement, and innovative practices that are aligned to district goals and instructional priorities and grounded in data, with monthly maps and benchmarks
- Leads the school directors to implements the district’s progress monitoring and assessment strategy that develops the ability of school leaders and their instructional leadership teams to build, implement and monitor a strategic school improvement plan, establish structures for data-driven instruction, and identifies and monitors supports for students aligned to district targets and goals outlined in District Ends Policies.
- Develops, supports and evaluates a high-performing community of School Directors who leverage each other’s strengths and support each other in achieving shared goals via team meetings, peer mentoring, and/or individual job-embedded coaching focused on instructional leadership.
- Develops School Directors' ability to develop, implement and monitor strategic plans that help meet student achievement goals, including engagement in root cause analyses, development of theories of action and building coherent multi-year strategies.
- Collaborates with the Chief of Academics, the Deputy Superintendent and fellow Executive Directors of Schools in developing communication systems that ensure the smooth flow of information (both vertically and horizontally), enable energy to be concentrated on the highest-priority goals for each school, and ensure best practices are shared across schools.
- Recommends changes in policies and procedures to ensure effectively functioning schools and to address the needs of schools, setting a climate for change, continuous improvement, problem solving, collaboration and openness
