Northrop Grumman Insights & Intelligence Solutions is seeking a behavioral research scientist to join Northrop Grumman’s People Analytics organization. This position will report to the Manager of Research & Insights. This role will be 100% virtual/work from home.


At Northrop Grumman, People Analytics is a core domain within our Insights and Intelligence (I2S) organization. I2S is a team of strategic analysts, scientists, engineers, and technologists who use science, research and data to identify strategic insights and create innovative analytic solutions for our business.

In this position, you will design employee listening programs and conduct quantitative analyses to uncover compelling stories and communicate findings through rigorous data journalism. Through these efforts, you will enable HR leaders and business partners to make informed decisions across multiple areas of human capital including, but not limited to talent acquisition, culture, talent management, compensation and retention.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Exploring potential stories by forming structured hypotheses, identifying patterns in data using quantitative methods, and deriving findings.
  • Pitching data-driven stories that provide insight into workforce programs, initiatives and trends.
  • Developing and executing employee listening strategies, including engagement, pulse, onboarding, and exit surveys.
  • Collaborating with other data professionals (e.g., analytics engineers, data scientists, behavioral scientists) to confirm and enhance preliminary findings. 
  • Synthesizing and communicating results for executive audiences by capturing meaningful insights and takeaways from data.
  • Driving projects from initial concept through deployment.
  • Working directly with a wide range of stakeholders, including executive leaders and HR partners, to understand organizational needs and business questions.

*This role can be performed by a level 3 (mid-career) Or a level 4 (senior level).

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with 1 year of relevant experience OR a Masters Degree in similar with 3 years of relevant experience OR a Bachelors Degree in similar with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient using an object-oriented programming language (e.g., Python or R) to conduct analysis and create visualizations.
  • Ability to apply quantitative and statistical approaches to answer questions using data.
  • Ability to develop and evaluate survey items to ensure accurate measurement of employee attitudes and experiences.
  • Experience in executive data storytelling and writing compelling, concise, and insightful articles to communicate developed insights.
