How you will help us create value together:
As a Powertrain Intern, you will be responsible for a range of activities for the Blasthole Drill Group. The Powertrain Team works closely with different teams in the drill group to create new products (New Product Development) and maintain existing drill designs (Current Product Support). Activities will include: reviewing and updating drill powertrain documentation, introduction to powertrain devices (transmissions, driveshafts, engines) and general layouts, exposure to powertrain design principles and guidelines, as well as design for manufacture and maintenance. Also, this position will aid powertrain engineers in non-time critical modeling tasks.
This onsite position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee’s Harbor District. The target start date for this role is Summer 2024 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2024 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Review and revise as necessary powertrain documentation included in the drill manuals
- Review current powertrain installation models
- Review development test plans / test data
- Aid engineers in powertrain analysis
- Documentation of engineering related work where required
Basic Qualifications
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar, from an accredited college or university
- Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or master’s level student in good academic standing
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team towards a goal
- Excellent organization and time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to be creative and resourceful
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous classroom and/or work experience in one or more of the following areas
- Transmission design (gears, shafts, bearings)
- Drivetrain componentry, such as driveshafts, torque converters, etc.
- Undergraduate level vibrational analysis
- Testing instrumentation and/or data acquisition systems
- Interest in or aptitude to learn about careers in the heavy equipment industry
- Being a “motor head” or “gear head” – someone who is very interested in mechanical power generation and transmission
