We are currently seeking a Battery Cell Scientist with practical experience in EV batteries and passion to advance battery cell technology. This position requires strong scientific background in electrochemistry, cell materials, or cell mechanical structure. Role
- Work cross-functionally with SMEs identify problem statements and needs; lead and execute development and execution of various analytical and characterization techniques to address them
- Own the creation, and upkeep of reporting and documentation standards and protocols
- Champion EH&S related tasks/programs and coordinate safe and timely waste removal.
- Maintain and resolve issues with equipment and lab facilities/infrastructure
- Support the identification, research, and development of business cases for future metrology equipment acquisition within the cell teams, as well as utilizing academic institutional facilities.
- Develop, build, and utilize coin half and 3-electrode cells in order to extract key electrode-level electrochemical curves.
- Support time sensitive root cause analyses of developmental and mass production battery cells.
Qualifications
- PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science or related field preferred or MS with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in battery research or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in materials characterization and applying appropriate or developing new analytical techniques to understand material properties
- Basic understanding of lithium-ion battery design, components, and safety
- Experience developing robust analytical protocols and assessing robustness via Gage R&R type methodology
- Experience working in laboratory settings and familiarity with EH&S practices
- Demonstrated track record of generating easy-to-follow written and oral reports
Advantageous
- Experience with battery material/electrode characteristics such as PSD, BET surface area, rheology, tensile strength
- Experience working handling and characterizing air sensitive samples
Education
