Summary:
The Internal Communications & Engagement Manager is responsible for shaping and delivering clear, consistent, and compelling internal communications and managing our community outreach programs to strengthen employee understanding, engagement, and connection to Landstar’s strategy, values, and culture.

This role serves as a thought partner to the CHRO and HR leadership team, translating enterprise priorities into effective communications for diverse employee audiences including corporate and field-based employees while reinforcing trust, transparency, and alignment across the organization.


Essential Responsibilities:

Employee Communications
• Develop and execute an integrated employee communications plan aligned to company priorities and leadership messaging.
• Serve as the primary internal communications advisor to the CHRO, supporting all employee-facing communications.
• Ensure clarity and consistency of messaging to employees across channels, leaders, and functions.
• Draft and manage communications such as enterprise updates, leadership messages, talking points, town hall content, and change announcements.
• Prepare communication toolkits for leaders and managers to support cascade communications and employee dialogue.
Employee Engagement & Culture
• Partner with HR colleagues (Engagement & Culture, Total Rewards, L&D, HRBPs) to design communications that support engagement initiatives, recognition programs, listening efforts, and cultural priorities.
• Support employee feedback loops by integrating insights from surveys, listening tours, and focus groups into communication approaches.
• Translate Landstar’s core values into visible, tangible employee experiences through storytelling and messaging.
• Develop change communication plans that address “why,” “what,” and “what it means for me” for different employee populations.
Content, Channels & Governance
• Manage and evolve internal communication channels (e.g., intranet, email, newsletters, leadership forums, digital signage, collaboration tools).
• Establish message governance, editorial calendars, and content standards to ensure quality, tone, and alignment.
• Partner with Corporate Communications, Strategic Marketing, and Legal to ensure messaging alignment with external narratives and policy requirements, including spokesperson and disclosure considerations.
Community Engagement & Corporate Citizenship
• Partner with the CHRO and cross-functional leaders to advance Landstar’s community engagement, philanthropy, and corporate citizenship priorities, including company-sponsored giving and volunteer initiatives.
• Lead internal communications strategy for enterprise community engagement efforts (e.g., United Way, disaster response, local community initiatives), ensuring clear messaging, strong participation, and alignment with company values.
• Develop compelling storytelling that highlights employee involvement, local impact, and responsible stewardship of resources across both corporate and field populations.
• Create communication plans and toolkits to support local leaders and employee volunteers in driving grassroots participation while maintaining enterprise consistency.
• Track and report engagement metrics (participation, reach, employee feedback) to assess impact and continuously improve community engagement communications.
• Serve as a trusted partner in positioning community engagement as a core component of Landstar’s culture and employee experience.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
• Define and track communications effectiveness metrics (e.g., engagement, open rates, leader feedback, employee understanding).
• Use data and feedback to continuously improve communications content and delivery.


Required Minimum Experience and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or change communications,
• 1 year of experience supporting enterprise-level communications.


Preferred Experience and Education:
• 1 year of experience in transportation, logistics, or similarly decentralized industries.
