Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position This position is responsible for reconciliation and financial reporting for assigned accounts, transactions and lines of business related to life and annuity products, licensing, commissions and claims accounts. This position is also responsible for Inforce operational tax reporting & reconciliation associated with life & annuity products. 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly account reconciliations associated with Life & Annuity Inforce operations, Shared Services Licensing & Commissions and Shared Services Claims accounting
  • Daily open-item management which includes interacting with business operations to drive resolution and/or documentation related to open items  
  • Research complex accounting transactions for suspense balancing and monitoring.
  • Maintain detailed understanding of financial transactions for fixed and variable life and annuity products and processes
  • Balancing of Federal and State tax accounts with 1099 records throughout the tax year
  • Management of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax related deadlines, including coordination of required minimum distribution (RMD) user acceptance testing and customer/agent mailings
  • Works with and organizes communication with other departments as new procedures/regulations are introduced
  • Provide subject matter knowledge on various accounting and reporting functions.
  • Embrace and support change management and communication process as it relates to tax and regulatory changes
  • Function as operational partner assisting with departmental internal and external audits
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or a minimum 5+ years of applicable experience, preferable in the insurance environment
  • Solid working experience with Microsoft excel. Advanced excel experience a plus.
  • Insurance accounting experience a plus
  • Preferred experience with SAP & FSCD
  • Understanding of IRS and other financial services related regulations
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, diligence, and ability to quickly prioritize tasks
  • Ability to adapt to changing business conditions, and break down barriers
  • Proficiency in self-managing and managing multiple concurrent assignments to scope, objectives, and deadlines
  • Ability to be an advocate for change and a participant in change management initiatives; provides a good example and keeps a positive attitude
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and compliance and regulatory standards
  • Solid foundational knowledge of life and annuity insurance products and processes
  • Knowledge and experience with Variable products
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $59,500 to $85,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.This position also offers additional incentive opportunities [through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance] OR [through cash compensation as part of a sales incentive plan (SIP).
