Systems and Operations Engineer (SOE)

Currently, Avint is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Systems and Operations Engineer.

Position Responsibilities:

• Work with other team members to implement the design created by other engineers.
• Collaborate with team members to understand and evaluate the plan for the computing and network equipment.
• Find ways to automate tasks (i.e. – server health, available disk space, critical processes, etc.) By using monitoring tools and scripting languages.
• Track files on multiple servers and across several data centers to ensure that data is ingested in a timely manner.
• Support the unit with other duties as assigned within the scope of work.
• Responsible for the architecture of the server environment, as well as plan for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of several hundred servers used in a real-time 24/7/365 configuration.
• Expected to be able to develop a methodology for evaluating system health, using enterprise tools (e.g., Forema, Ansible, saltstack).
• Work to lead a team of other system, SAN, and network engineers to keep the current operational system secure and up-to-date while also planning for new data centers that may be necessary.

• Find ways to automate tasks (such as checking server health, available disk space, and ensuring all necessary critical processes are running) by using monitoring tools and scripting languages.
• Responsible for the overall health and operation of the system and is expected to respond to emergency calls when critical infrastructure has failed or is unresponsive.
• Troubleshoot with other team members to identify the issue and put in motion steps to resolve.

Technical Areas of Expertise:

• Netbox
• LibreNMS
• Ansible
• Jinja2
• Experience deploying services to AWS cloud

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• Multiple programming languages necessary to meet a diverse set of requirements. The Contractor must be familiar with a variety of scripts, programming languages, and operating systems. Examples of relevant computer programming languages currently used to design and deploy components include, but are not limited to:
  • Vsphere/Vsan
  • Python
  • Linux (Ubuntu)
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • Elastic
  • Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Extensible Markup Language (XML)
  • Web Services Description Language (WSDL)
  • HTML
  • JavaScript
  • Mastery of the of Linux operating systems.
  • Understand enterprise-level software resources and how to best use them to accomplish the mission.
• Four (4) year college degree in an electrical engineering or computer engineering field, plus four (4) year of systems engineering experience
• In lieu of education seven (7) years of experience in the systems engineering field as detailed above. If utilizing in lieu of education, all experience must be at or above the position level described above.
