Job Details

The Recreational Therapist provides evidence-based treatment for people with mental, physical or
emotional disabilities or illnesses to improve or maintain their health and well-being. The Recreational Therapist will collaborate with other allied health specialists such as Physical, Occupational, and/or Creative Arts Therapists to plan, implement, and evaluate therapy interventions.

Job Description

Essential Functions

Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.

Plan, direct, deliver, and evaluate recreation-evidence based interventions for a full patient

caseload in skilled facility, acute rehab, outpatient settings as appropriate.

Participate in student education typically, part-time students like ICE or higher.

Completes education, teaching, and professional activities commensurate with novice clinician.

Assesses, synthesizes and applies the evidence-based literature in clinical practice. Reviews available information from referral sources and chart review and documents information relevant to the therapeutic recreation planning and treatment of the patient.

Documents clients' participation and reactions during therapeutic recreation treatments, tracks patients' progress and evaluates therapeutic effects.

Provides adaptive equipment to help clients with disabilities participate in recreational activities assigned in treatment plans.

Selects, develops and implements recreational activities to help clients improve physical, mental and social functions. Adapts individual leisure/recreation activities to resident’s needs or disabilities.

Participates in department’s performance improvement program.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor degree or higher with concentration in recreational therapy (therapeutic recreation) in addition to specific support coursework.

AND

Experience:

Completion of a minimum 14 week / 560 hour internship supervised by a CTRS.

0-2 years of clinical practice, 1 year preferred

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

NCTRC Certification required. CTRS Specialization Area Designation: Available choices: Adaptive Sports

and Recreation, Behavioral Health, Community Inclusion Services, Developmental Disabilities, Geriatrics,

Pediatrics, Physical Medicine/Rehabilitation.
