Job Description: Instructor, Vocational Nursing (LVN)
Department: Student Learning & Success Pay Classification: Faculty
Reports To: Dean of Health & Public Service FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary: Responsible for the success of the total teaching/learning process within the assigned nursing classroom, laboratory, clinical, or other learning environment. Responsible for scheduling, supervising, teaching, and evaluating students in the classroom and clinical setting.
Minimum Required
Education: Associate’s degree in nursing.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (preferred)
Must hold a current license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.
Minimum Required
Experience: Three years’ experience as a licensed nurse.
Preferred: Teaching experience in a higher educational nursing program.
Core Duties and
Required Knowledge: Demonstrates a commitment to academic and scholarly excellence, personal integrity, and professional ethics.
Maintains working knowledge of the Texas Board of Nursing Rule 215 of the Nurse Practice Act for Licensure.
Provides instruction in assigned classes and clinical rotations with professionalism and dedication.
Promotes the use of critical thinking skills in clinical settings to enhance student learning and patient care.
Plans and delivers course content effectively, prepares lessons in advance, communicates clear course requirements, and evaluates students fairly and objectively in alignment with institutional standards.
Supervises, teaches, and evaluates students in the clinical setting, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Submits required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Communicates effectively in both oral and written forms.
Builds positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
Applies critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support effective teaching and student learning.
