Discovery Biotherapeutics and Leads Discovery and Optimization (DBTx-LDO) is a multidisciplinary group of scientists providing critical molecular discovery, structural, functional, and mechanistic datasets to discover differentiated therapeutics. The Pharmacological Sciences and Screening Technologies team within DBTx-LDO plays a critical role in enabling lead discovery, molecular profiling, mechanistic differentiation and strategic insights for our drug discovery programs across a spectrum of therapeutic modalities.  The team works collaboratively across adjacent functions including biology, protein sciences & biophysics, chemical biology, structural biology, translational biology, synthetic chemistry and computational chemistry for design and discovery of novel therapeutics.

We seek a Senior Director, who will be accountable for oncology small molecule portfolio oversight, strategic vision setting and cross-geography (Cambridge, MA and Lawrenceville, NJ) collaborations to drive our exciting portfolio. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and experienced drug discovery scientist, and proven portfolio leader, collaborator and innovator.  This is an on-site role based out of our Cambridge, MA site.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Act as a subject matter expert, setting the strategic vision for the in vitro pharmacology team and ensuring the adoption of cutting-edge technologies and approaches. This includes staying current on the latest advancements in screening methodologies.
• Oversee and guide the design, optimization, and validation of cellular, biochemical and biophysical assays to support target identification, high-throughput screening (HTS), and lead optimization.
• Lead and manage hit generation, screening and molecular profiling activities for multiple drug discovery programs across different therapeutic areas.
• Work extensively in a matrix environment, collaborating with various departments such as medicinal chemistry, biology, computational sciences, and toxicology to advance drug discovery pipelines.
• Ensure the generation of high-quality data and use advanced software for data analysis, archiving, and interpretation to guide program decisions.
• Manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team of scientists across biochemistry and cellular pharmacology groups to impact and progress an exciting and innovative portfolio of novel therapeutics
• Supervise multiple PhD and advanced leaders and scientists within their teams. Management of technology infrastructure, future innovation and strategy.
• Foster a culture of transparency, innovation, career development and collaboration

Qualifications:

• Passionate and innovative scientist with A Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline is typically required.
• Extensive industry experience (10+ years) in drug discovery, with a proven track record of successfully advancing programs from target concept to preclinical candidate selection.
• Deep expertise in diverse in vitro assay technologies, including cell-based and biochemical assays, high-content screening (HCS), and lab automation.
• Proven experience (8+ years) in a leadership role, including managing scientific teams and budgets.
• Strong strategic planning and decision-making abilities with an innovative mindset.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, highly effective in interacting with key internal and external stakeholders, and a commitment to working collaboratively across organizational boundaries to solve complex technical issues
