Our movie and TV ratings are available on Target.com, Xfinity, Apple TV, and many other partner platforms helping families make smart media choices. Through our schools program, we provide educators with a curriculum that teaches the essential digital citizenship and literacy skills every student needs to succeed. We also work with policymakers, industry leaders, and concerned parents, caregivers, and teachers to improve the media and education landscape for kids, families, and schools.
Common Sense Media is seeking a research intern who can help our research team over the summer. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain hands-on experience in the children's digital media research space. The ideal candidate will be thoughtful and detail-oriented and will work both collaboratively and independently.
The primary functions of this role will be based on current team priorities but may include support of existing research projects; tracking relevant research in the field; and helping with conference proposals and presentations.
LOCATION: San Francisco, CA, or remote
REPORTS TO: Sr. Research Manager
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Join a research team of children's media experts to support our external research agenda
- Conduct ongoing research to monitor industry/research trends across the media, entertainment, and tech industries
- Track Common Sense research citations across Google Scholar and similar platforms
- Brainstorm and provide recommendations for more effective ways of tracking citations
- Contribute to academic conference proposals and help prepare posters and presentations as needed for upcoming conventions
- Research prospective partners and provide company overviews to educate internal teams, as needed
- Support ongoing research reports based on your own strengths (writing, data analysis, etc.)
- Present findings and trends to an internal audience
WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON YOUR APPLICATION:
- Communication/Media, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science, Education, or related majors preferred
- Candidates with interest in or direct experience in research, especially research related to children and/or media/technology
- Adept at Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc.)
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Great attention to detail and follow-through
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
- Ideal start date: June 20, 2023.
- Ideal end date: August 25, 2023.
- Hours: ~20 hours/week
- Interns need to be available to attend weekly educational Lunch & Learns. Lunch & Learns will be every Wednesday from 12 p.m.–1 p.m. (PST).
- We will work with your clinical or internship office for school credit if necessary.
