TITLE: Principal - Elementary
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Elementary School Administrative Assistant
SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools. The applicant must demonstrate a knowledge of and an ability to implement developmental educational programs and to deliver developmentally appropriate services to students. Preference will be given to applicants with successful elementary administrative experience.
SALARY: Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule, plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation. Harrison County Professional Salary Schedule
EMPLOYMENT: 235 days
FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: The successful applicant for this position shall:
*Possess Masters Degree and earned West Virginia
Elementary Principal Certification for applicable
grades.
*Provide information regarding amount of experience
relevant to the position.
*Provide evidence of academic achievement.
*Provide information regarding relevant specialized
training for the position.
*Provide information regarding the amount of course
work and/or degree level regarding the position.
*Provide information regarding past performance
evaluations as an administrator.
*Provide evidence of knowledge of Effective
Schools/Teaching Research as it applies to the
management of a elementary school.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience
preparing an elementary school schedule.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience
assessing the needs of a school, evaluating the
effectiveness of school practices, developing school
improvement plans, setting goals, and establishing
policies to manage day-to-day decisions.

*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience
holding staff meetings, assigning staff
responsibilities, analyzing school personnel needs,
and arranging for staff development training.
*Demonstrate an understanding of how effective
working relationship among administration, teachers,
and parents leads to improved learning, confidence
and morale for students, parents and teachers.
*Demonstrate an understanding of how to write
school goals and objectives following county
specified criteria format.
*Possess basic operational knowledge of computers.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience in
the development of site based management.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience in
the process of developing mentorships for new
teachers.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience in
school finance.
*Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively
through clear, concise writing, with a minimum of
spelling and grammatical errors; and through
articulate verbal skills.
*Demonstrate a knowledge of grant writing and
alternative sources of finance.
*Demonstrate ability to develop effective
relationships with community organizations and
leaders.
*Demonstrate instructional leadership ability.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and/or experience
observing/evaluating and conferencing with teachers
regarding their performance in instruction and
classroom management.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and exhibits ability
to interpret and implement policies, regulations and
school law.
*Provide evidence of knowledge and ability to
manage effectively a comprehensive program of
student behavior within the school.
*Any combination of training and experience which
would lead to successful employment as a Principal.
