Your Specific Responsibilities:
Provides paraprofessional services to the clinics under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nurse
Supervisor. Incumbent’s responsibilities will be to provide quality assurance duties for controls, logs, and other medical equipment, ordering of clinical supplies, reconciliation of lab results and maintaining lab and exam rooms.
Performs laboratory venipunctures as ordered, collects urine and swab samples and generates electronic lab requisitions and records services in HMS. Handles laboratory specimens appropriately and prepares and routes them to the appropriate laboratory in a timely manner. Maintains universal precautions with all body fluids contacts and ensures lab area is organized, clean and infection control standards are maintained.
Monitors laboratory refrigerators and autoclaves. Monitors all controls as prescribed by CLIA (Lab Standards). Maintains up to date laboratory logs. Performs weekly flushing of eye wash station.
Performs and accurately documents vital signs, height/weight, urinalysis, hemoglobin’s, stool samples, vision, and hearing screenings, etc. as indicated. Interviews and obtains client health histories. All information obtained is then promptly entered into the electronic health record.
Routes clients to professional staff in a timely and organized manner. Assists practitioners in conducting examinations and procedures as needed. Provides HIV counseling and testing.
Maintains log of all labs completed in the clinic area, including hemoglobin’s, blood sugars, etc. Monitors glucometers and hemacues every morning by completing and logging controls. Reports to supervisor any results outside established parameters. Reviews E-Lab error report daily and provides needed correction.
Sets up clinic areas and exam rooms by stocking room with equipment and supplies daily. Cleans and sanitizes exam rooms at clinic end, including but not limited to, wiping exam tables, changing tale paper, and stocking rooms. Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and orders supplies in a timely manner. Stocks supplies when received.
Performs related work as required.
Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purposes of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stores in hard copy of electronic formats.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be skilled in phlebotomy, and computer-generated lab requisitions.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Knowledge of basic computer software.
- Knowledge of basic pharmaceutical terminology and calculations.
- Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
- Skill in taking blood pressure readings.
- Ability to interview patients and obtain a complete medical history.
- Ability to follow instructions. Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively.
