Terminal Technician (Mechanical Rotating Equipment) - Grain LNG, Isle of Grain, Kent

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding terminal, which is of strategic national importance to UK energy infrastructure and security of supply. We're the largest Liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Europe and eighth largest in the world by tank capacity with a site that spans over 600 acres in total.

 

Grain LNG, located on the Isle of Grain in Kent, is currently being expanded to store and deliver enough gas to meet up to 33% of UK gas demand. 

 

As a Terminal Technician (Mechanical Rotating Equipment), you'll ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of Grain LNG's Mechanical assets through the efficient maintenance and operation of those assets. This operation and maintenance allow the terminal to meet its nomination and requirements under the COMAH regulation. This role is based on-site at our world-class facility in Kent.

Key accountabilities

  • Undertake a range of duties on high pressure, cryogenic plant and equipment as required including maintenance, plant operation, site delivery of projects, commissioning, complex fault investigation, to ensure optimum efficiency, cost effectiveness, and safety as appropriate.
  • Responding to breakdowns and issues that require agile and flexible mechanical support.
  • Planned maintenance execution, defect fixing, recording and execution of technical improvements on production lines.
  • Maintaining and continuously improving the Maintenance Work Planning & Scheduling for the department where needed. Constantly looking for ways to improve their equipment, processes and systems.
  • Keep up-to-date with all site maintenance and operational records of all work activities and operations undertaken.
  • Be a part of and support the construction and commissioning of new assets within the terminal identifying the requirement to replace/upgrade existing plant and equipment as well as participating in the design of minor modifications, and the provision of technical support.

About you

  • A wide range of practical ability, knowledge and understanding of Mechanical systems, pumps, LNG unloading arms, compressors, valves and hydraulic systems.
  • Competent in writing and understanding risk assessments and method statements for permits.
  • Able to understand P&ID’s, Hydraulic schematics, engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Environmental knowledge/impact in respect of day-to-day duties.
  • Planning, communication and able to achieve completion of planned, corrective and predictive maintenance using Maximo asset management system and effective planning talking to stakeholders.
  • Communicating with contractors, suppliers & manufacturers and raising of purchase orders for maintenance tasks.
  • NVQ Level 3, ONC or City & Guilds in relevant discipline.
  • Prior oil & gas knowledge is beneficial or equivalent engineering experience power generation or heavy industry.

What you'll get

  • A competitive salary of £39,000 – £44,000 – dependent on capability.
  • Established market supplement of £5,000 per annum (paid monthly).
  • Shift allowance of 13.5%.
  • Standby allowance of £374 per week of cover. This would be approximately £4,862 per annum – as you can expect to be on-call for around 13 weeks of the year.
  • 26 days annual leave (plus bank holidays).
