About the role:
We are seeking an outstanding Sr. Manager, Plastics New Product Introduction to join the Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) team at 10x Genomics. The person in this role will be a leader in the Global Operations Engineering team. This is a multi-disciplinary position that will work closely with a variety of groups including Microfluidics, Supply Chain Management, New Product Development, Product Service and Support, and Instrument Lifecycle Engineering. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians responsible for transferring new plastic components to volume manufacturing. This role partners with the Operations, NPI, Customer Support and R&D teams to improve robustness and efficiencies across multiple product lines.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track-record in supporting complex plastic components used in on market equipment for the life science or medical device industry. This person should have a broad understanding of design and manufacturing of complex plastic systems and enjoy solving complex problems. As a member of the team, we are driven to support 10x manufacturing, supply chain and service & support teams to deliver products to our customers that enable them to accelerate our understanding of biology.
What you will be doing:
- Lead a team responsible for release to volume manufacturing of complex plastic consumables involving LSR- thermoplastic assemblies, COC/COP precision molded microfluidics consumables, and related plastic consumables.
- Sustain and improve on market products for reliability, yield, vendor quality, continuity of supply, and part obsolescence.
- Direct the transfer of new parts to suppliers using compounding, molding, solvent bonding, of thermoplastics and elastomers, COC, PET, and ABS
- Build, coach, and lead a diverse team of engineers and technicians.
- Organize and manage projects to improve costs and product yield and assure smooth production transfer of new designs to established volume manufactures.
- Identify opportunities to enhance both supplier quality, internal systems and implement process enhancements, to driving continuous improvements in on market products.
- Occasionally supplier visits supporting quality audits and new vendor capabilities assessment
- Ensure close collaboration with microfluidcs and NPD teams
- Move quickly across the organization to build consensus and take rapid action to address field issues
- Drive the team to achieve short- and long-term goals for new product launches
- Develop and advocate for plastics development strategy supporting R&D and Manufacturing needs
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical, Plastics or Manufacturing engineering.
- At least 7+ years of experience, preferably within biotechnology or life science engineering or manufacturing.
- Experience with structured problem-solving methods, comfortable using large data sets to drive decisions.
- Ability to travel internationally as needed.
- Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changes (e.g., priorities and timelines)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- PhD/MS in Polymer Science, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- A minimum of 10 years industrial experience in plastics consumables including DfM/DfX, formulations, compounding, molding, and testing, co-molding, SLR overmolding
- Familiarity with statistical data analysis tools and design of experiments; six sigma green/black belt certification desired
- Proven ability to lead plastics application development team
- Direct experience plastics injection molding process optimization and process transfer

Below is the base pay range for this full time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program.
