Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as the Executive Director of Revenue Cycle responsible for achieving and maintaining patient financial services operations as well as championing the development, generation, and presentation of information critical to the ongoing measurements and operation of the revenue cycle. This is a flexible remote position based out of our Burr Ridge office; 1-2 days in-office required per week.

 

The Executive Director of Revenue Cycle will oversee the patient financial services and single billing office teams, as well as the revenue cycle support services roles for UChicago Medicine, including the University of Chicago Medical Center, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, and UChicago Medicine Crown Point. Critical responsibilities in this role include the achievement of annual and periodic goals for revenue cycle key performance indicators that support the organization’s overall financial performance for all UChicago Medicine facilities, including acute care hospitals, home health and hospice, ambulatory surgery centers, behavioral health and inpatient rehab.

 

The Executive Director will assess operational trends, provide key insights and understanding of system-wide impact, and suggest improvement initiatives to the VP.  The continued industry relevance and overall importance of the patient experience means the individual in this role will be responsible for identifying and building collaborative partnerships among front-end, mid-cycle and business office stakeholders, as well as clinical leaders. A strong focus on optimization of resources and capabilities through governance, analytics, tracking KPIs, and benchmarking against leading practice is critical to the success of the position.

 

Who you are:

A strategic and collaborative revenue cycle leader with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or comparable experience required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10 years prior management experience required with a minimum of five years in revenue cycle operations.
  • Knowledge of hospital and financial operations required, including reimbursement requirements for federal and state programs (Medicare, Medicaid) as well as current insurance industry standards.
  • Experience in a University / Academic Health Care System preferred.
  • Familiarity with numerous private insurance reimbursement plan types, including preferred provider organizations, health maintenance organizations, third party administrators, regional physician office plans, point of service plans, etc.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • The aptitude to deal with difficult situations with tact and diplomacy and to effectively interact with people in a variety of contexts, including hospital leadership, staff, patients, physicians and third party payers.
  • Superior ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a “team” environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when managing confidential and sensitive information.

  

What you’ll do as the Executive Director of Revenue Cycle:

  • Collaborate with executive-level and revenue cycle leadership to set initiative goals and pinpoint opportunities to fortify the patient experience.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the revenue cycle functions including patient financial services single billing offices and revenue cycle support services, which include training, education, and operational analysts.
  • Review financial and performance reports from each facility/department and collaborate with departments across UCM to develop and implement improvement initiatives aimed at achieving organizational goals.
  • Work with department directors to set performance criteria and receive regular updates on teams’ performance.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with subordinates and superiors regarding the status and condition of operations in revenue cycle areas.
  • Establish and revise revenue cycle policies and procedures in accordance with continuous improvement initiatives and compliance with government regulations and corporate policies.
  • Ensure staff awareness and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards at the federal, state, and agency level.
  • Develop multidisciplinary teams to enhance quality and efficiency of revenue cycle.
  • Foster a collaborative workplace among physicians, clinicians, and revenue cycle staff across the health system; identifies liaisons among these stakeholders as needed.
