JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY
The Relief Pharmacist position coordinates the drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities for support departments. The role is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug patient care (pet) and provides clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient (pet), the veterinarian and all other appropriate support personnel. They will also support the company mission, vision, and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reviews and interprets vets orders for appropriateness relevant to, to ensure that overdoses or under-doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities or toxic compounds will not result from combination of medications
Dispenses prescriptions to pets in accordance with policy and in conformance with regulations and laws dealing with the class of prescription; counsels patients (pet owners) about their medications and maintains an accurate, up to date profile
Maintains necessary controls with respect to audited controlled drugs and alcohol; prepares controlled drug request for delivery by technician
Participates in in-service education programs when requested
Verifies the work performed by support personnel, which includes pet drug data entry, cassette filling and unit-dose drug distribution
Maintains up to date knowledge of the profession by participating in organization memberships; by attending meetings, lectures, in service and seminars; by reading journals; and by complying with National Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency
Participates in clinical programs instituted in the department such as drug-level monitoring, antibiotic monitoring and consults
Participates in special studies as requested
Ensures that the quality of the professional services is maintained

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or BS Degree in Pharmacy
Must have 6 – 12 months of experience
Experience with veterinary products preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be a Licensed Registered Pharmacist in good standing with the state of Texas and other states as required
