ROLE SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual with strong expertise in assay development, plate-based screening, and use of automated instrumentation to join our High Throughput Screening (HTS) team within the Discovery Biology and Pharmacology (DBP) Group in Groton, CT. This team is focused on in vitro plate-based HTS assays to identify new chemical matter to support small molecule discovery programs across a range of therapeutic areas at Pfizer. As part of the DBP group, this individual will work closely with colleagues across functions and be an integral member on project teams. He/She/They will combine a foundation of scientific method and rigor, attention to detail, good communication skills, and a sense of humor to perform this challenging job with a sense of joy.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assist in assay development, adapt those assays to miniaturized 384- and 1536-well plate formats, and transition them to automated screening systems for HTS. He/she/they will execute primary screening, data analysis, hit confirmation, and downstream assays all with minimal supervision.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Partner with pharmacology scientists and protein/cell sciences teams to develop miniaturized, high-throughput plate-based assays

  • Partner with automation specialists to transfer assays to automated systems for high-throughput screening

  • Leverage a range of equipment including common plate readers and liquid handlers to enable robust high-throughput screening

  • Upload data to databases

  • Assist with routine lab maintenance

  • Present screening results within project teams

  • Conduct hit confirmation and execute downstream follow-up assays

  • Collaborate to identify, evaluate, and where applicable, implement new technology solutions that enhance efficiencies and capabilities

  • Maintain impeccable notebook records

Qualifications

  • BS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology or equivalent field with 2+ years of experience in industry is required.

  • Experience developing plate-based assays including cell and biochemical assays such as FRET, AlphaLISA, nanoBRET, and GLO

  • Demonstrated experience working with a range of equipment including plate readers and liquid handlers

  • Familiarity with common HTS equipment such as the Acoustic Echo, Tempest and Combi liquid handlers, Pherastar and Envision readers

  • Experience conducting plate-based screens on automated systems

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to ensure alignment among project teams

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced culture

  • Demonstrated ability to apply a continuous improvement mindset to drive efficiencies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in data analysis

  • Expertise in specialized HTS assay formats such as high-content screening, qRT-PCR, CETSA, and mass spectrometry

  • Experience with scheduling software like Cellario

  

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Sitting, standing, lifting, bending, and walking.  Ability to work on a computer (while standing or sitting).  Ability to perform mathematical calculations and interpret data.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Majority of work will be performed during the standard work day, but ability to work flexible hours when needed is preferrable

  • Travel to attend appropriate meetings and conferences

  • Compliance with laboratory safety practices

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $66,500.00 to $110,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Perf
