Summary
Under general supervision, performs skilled mechanical work in the repair, service, and maintenance of County-owned cars, light trucks, and related equipment. Diagnoses mechanical issues, conducts preventive maintenance, and completes necessary repairs to ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently. Work includes performing inspections, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, and maintaining accurate service records. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with established safety standards, department policies, and applicable regulations.Examples of duties
- Diagnoses mechanical and electrical issues in County-owned vehicles and equipment using diagnostic tools and test equipment.
- Performs skilled repairs on a variety of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, braking systems, air conditioning and heating systems, suspension components, and vehicle bodies.
- Conducts preventive maintenance services, such as oil and filter changes, tire rotations and balancing, fuel system servicing, fluid checks, battery testing, and onboard diagnostic code scanning and clearing.
- Replaces or rebuilds vehicle components, including engines, transmissions, differentials, and other critical systems, in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
- Provides technical assistance to co-workers by diagnosing complex mechanical problems and advising on repair strategies.
- Performs regular inspections of tools, shop equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe operating conditions and compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintains accurate and timely records of maintenance activities, repairs completed, parts used, and labor hours by completing daily maintenance reports and work orders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supplemental information
Requires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by at least two (2) years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair. Formal training or certification in automotive technology is preferred.Apply for this role
