Job purpose

Provide specific diversified tooling and assemblies to meet engineering and production requirements by performing various complex technical Tool Room functions with limited supervision.

Journeyman Tool and Die Maker has a complete knowledge of all Tool Room operations and utilizes the skill and ability to perform complex layouts and complex machine tool set-ups for the purpose of adjusting, repairing, heat treating and constructing various tools, dies, fixtures, gages, etc.  Must be able to work to extremely close tolerances, assemble various tooling projects and electro-mechanical assemblies, and be able to set-up and operate all Tool Room equipment with general responsibility for work involved.

What we are looking for

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Minimum 4 years of extensive specific skills training in tool and die making field

• Wire EDM and Jig Grind experience preferred.

• Machine maintenance experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• Salary ranges from $55,000 - $75,000 based on experience

Core competencies

• Technical Know How:  Specific training and work experience equivalent to a Journeyman Trade Certificate, with the understanding of complex blue prints, assembly prints, and mathematics up to and including the fundamentals of trigonometry.  Knowledge to set-up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot all Tool Room equipment and precision measuring devices is required. 

• Training:  Extensive specific skills training in the tool and die making field for a minimum of six (4) years. Knowledge of Wire EDM machines and Jig grinding operations preferred.

• Decision Making/Accountability:  The Journeyman Tool and Die maker works in an environment that requires limited supervision, periodic guidance of others, and the latitude to deviate on Tool Room practices and procedures.  Review of work results is usually after the fact.

• Communication/Interpersonal Skills:  Relationship usually involves discussion and/or recommendations on issues regarding machining practices. Impact is considerable and may be limited to an individual project, department, or could possibly affect the facility as a whole.
