About the role

Overview

Bruker Nano Surfaces and Metrology (BNSM) is seeking to hire an Operations Manager to lead all aspects of operations and production for its AFM Probes fabrication facility in Camarillo, CA. Functions that report to this position include process engineering, production planning, equipment engineering, facilities engineering, and quality.

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader in operations and engineering management from a semiconductor or MEMS wafer fabrication facility.  They are highly motivated to create and manage a positive, efficient, and productive working environment and lead the AFM Probes Operations team to produce world-class AFM probes and meet our performance, delivery, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction objectives. They will work closely with other members of the Bruker organization to drive new product introduction, continuous improvement in product quality and processes, cost reductions, and health / safety compliance.  They will engage cross-functionally with members of design and development engineering, marketing, sales, and service.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Achieve all key KPI’s; revenue, inventory levels, cost targets, meet customer demand per published lead-times.
  • Making strategic and tactical decisions on the overall operation of the Probes organization to meet quality, delivery, revenue and cost objectives, including: manufacturing / production, production control and planning, process and quality engineering, equipment and facilities engineering, inventory and materials control, and customer support.
  • Achieving quality targets as measured by in-process metrics (IBQ) and customer complaints (OBQ);
  • Working with Product Management to release new products into production and volume ramp.
  • Managing the wafer fab equipment and facilities in accordance to environmental and safety regulations.  Working with EH&S consultant to provide quarterly and annual reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Participating in annual strategic planning activities with operations and BU management teams to set realistic, achievable, and quantifiable goals for Probes operations.
  • Assessing technology / equipment capabilities relative to current and future requirements and recommend necessary resource investments to close gaps. Ensure Probes’ processes and infrastructure are sufficient to meet business requirements and needs.
  • Create expense and capital budgets, policies, and measurable performance metrics.
  • Reporting the status of operations on a weekly basis and on a quarterly basis.
  • Work with production planning to optimize and inventory to meet demand.
  • Working with equipment Engineering and facilities ensuring all PM schedules are monitored and executed for all equipment.

 

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While the majority of the work is performed in an office environment, the successful candidate must be able to work in a class 100 cleanroom environment, wearing gloves and full bonny suit, must be able to handle chemicals and work in proximity of sources of Ultraviolet light wearing personal protective equipment, and must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Qualifications

 

 EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or other technical discipline.  Advanced technical degree (MS and/or PhD) and/or MBA preferred.
  • Must have at least 10 years of experience as a process engineer or key member of the operations team and the demonstrated ability to lead the successful introduction and production ramp of new products.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience as an operations manager in a MEMS or semiconductor wafer fabrication facility, managing a group of 10+ people, including exempt and non-exempt personnel. Experience with the managing planning, production control, inventory and materials management, and customer support.
  • Must be familiar with the Engineering principles of photolithography, wet and dry etch, bulk silicon etch, diffusion, thin film deposition, and semiconductor metrology. Must be familiar with the operation of semiconductor or MEMS processing equipment. Must be familiar with basic MEMS process flows. Must be familiar with the management of industrial-scale facilities supporting a wafer fab, including DI water, gases, chemicals, waste, HVAC, and safety systems. 
  • Must have experience with an ERP system, SAP preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of the fundamentals of accounting and costing.
  • Must be familiar with the Windows operating systems and with the MS Office suite, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
