About the role

 NC Programming Supervisor

Purpose

Responsible for leading the NC programming team, evaluating customer engineering data, and utilizing Mastercam to create models and highly optimized NC programs software to produce quality products at nominal dimensions from various materials. The Supervisor ensures the team provides all necessary documentation, including set up sheets, tooling lists, fixtures, and verified NC code files, to aid efficient production. This role requires providing technical expertise for clarification and troubleshooting on the production floor, driving continuous improvement to achieve the highest quality product with minimal variation and optimal efficiency.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent substantial work experience preferably in the Aerospace Industry.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on NC/CNC programming experience, with a focus on precision machining, multi-axis machining.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a lead, supervisory or management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of major CNC machine controls (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens).
  • Expert proficiency and previous experience with Mastercam programming preferred

Supervisory Experience

  • Hire, train and manage the daily schedules and workflow of the NC programming team.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations, handle employee discipline and terminations in accordance with company policy.
  • Collaborate with department leaders (ex: Production, Engineering, Quality) to monitor performance and make recommendations that improve overall organizational efficiency and output.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of the financial impact of daily programming decisions, actively working to reduce or eliminate non-value-added costs.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the programming team and shop floor supervision, production employees, and external organizational contracts.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design, write and optimize complex NC/CNC programs (G-code, M-code, etc.) for various multi axis machine tools (mills, lathes, routers) using advanced CAD/CVAM software (ex: Mastercam, SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
  • Analyze blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications including GD&T to determine the most efficient and accurate machining methods.
  • Perform machine simulations (ex: using Vericut) to verify program accuracy, ensure collision prevention and estimate run times.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex programming and machining issues on the production floor to minimize equipment downtime and scrap.
  • Assist in setting up and proving out new or modified programs on the machines.
  • Oversee the selection, standardization, and management of cutting tools, tool holders, and related equipment to optimize material removal rates and tool longevity.
  • Coordinate and assist in the design and fabrication of specialized jigs, fixtures and work holding solutions.
  • Establish, update and enforce manufacturing and programming standards and best practices across the department to minimize variation.
  • Identify, track and assist in the creation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the programming department.
  • Expert ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and 3D models.
  • Ability to operate, program, and adjust all machines that programs are written for.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of different cutting tools, tool selection, and their correct utilization for each material and application.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills focused on identifying and resolving manufacturing process issues early on.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, high-pressure environment with multiple priorities and shifting time requirements.
  • Complete understanding of Mastercam Programming software and the functions
  • Provides training to end users on effective use of applications and programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
