Job Description:

Location: Base Fire Department, 2500 Greenlief Street, Lincoln NE

Job Duties:

Operates assigned piece of fire apparatus.

Responds, and may act a lead worker, to a variety of emergency situations: holds nozzles and directs agent streams; raises and climbs ladders; and uses chemical extinguishers, bars, hooks, lines and other equipment in performing fire fighting and rescue duties.

Performs rescue and extraction operations including searching burning aircraft and structures for trapped and/or unconscious victims, and operating the "jaws-of-life".

Responds, and may act as lead worker, to a variety of aircraft related emergencies including, crash of military, commercial, and civil aircraft; in-flight or ground hazardous materials incidents, in-flight emergencies including aircraft equipment problems and home-land security threats; or fuel spills, special maintenance, weapons loading, and aircraft welding.

Responds, and may act as lead worker, to a variety of medical emergencies, including personal injury accidents, accidents with machinery, and motor vehicle accidents; administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation, automated external defibrillation, and uses other medical equipment and procedures in providing emergency medical services in accordance with national standards and local protocols.

Responds, and may act as lead worker, to a variety of hazardous materials emergencies, including fuel spills, and other releases of hazardous materials in accordance with Air Force and NFPA standards.

Participates in the base confined space program, and will respond and may act as lead worker, in a variety of confined space emergencies, to emergency situations involving trapped and or injured personnel. Will also respond to non-emergency calls to oversee confined space entry procedures in accordance with OSHA and AFOSH standards.

Will be trained in and will respond to terrorist incidents involving weapons of mass destruction. Performs salvage operations including placing salvage covers, removing water and debris, assists in protecting evidence for investigation purposes.

Inspects base facilities to gain compliance with fire prevention regulations and NFPA codes, and to become familiar with the building contents, and the surrounding area.

Participates in and conducts group and individual training and drill sessions relating to fire fighting, emergency medical services, rescue, and related topic areas.

Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire station including cleaning, washing, painting walls and floors; washing and reloading fire hose; cleaning and maintaining fire apparatus.

Participates in the Fire Department Public Education Program by promoting fire safety to the general public through tours of the station, safety briefings, extinguisher classes and informational flyers.


 

There are three (3) positions available.

If we are unable to fill the position at the Airport Fire Fighter level, we will consider applicants at the Airport Fire Fighter Trainee level to be determined by education and/or experience.

Upon a successful probationary period and attaining all required certifications which must be completed within two years performing higher level duties, the supervisor can recommend a promotion to Airport Fire Fighter at a higher rate of pay.

Starting hourly pay rate for the Airport Fire Fighter level is $21.474.

Starting hourly pay rate for the Airport Fire Fighter Trainee level is $19.169.

Shifts are 24 hours on/48 hours off.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Airport Fire Fighter: Two years of fire fighting experience plus National Registry EMT-B, as well as the following IFSAC or Pro-Board Certificates, Fire Fighter I & II, Airport Fire Fighter, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Operations, Hazardous Materials Technician, Driver/Operator Pumper, and Driver/Operator ARFF and Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply Certifications are required.

Airport Fire Fighter Trainee: Must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer certification as an Airport Rescue Firefighter.
