What do we do?
Below are a few of the Senior Financial Auditor position's primary responsibilities:
•  Reviews the work of the Health Facility Auditors for Private Non-Medical Institutions(PNMI) and Skilled Nursing Facilities(SNF) within the State of Vermont, using the Division of Rate Setting(Division) review procedures. 
•  Instruct, train, and mentor newly hired Auditors in the processes and regulations used by the Division.
•  Consult with appropriate personnel on accounting and auditing issues, and consult with other staff on the interpretation of state and federal healthcare regulations. 
•  Performs special analysis and participates in special assignments at the request of the Rate Setting Manager or the Director of Rate Setting.
•  Perform desk reviews and field audits of SNFs and PNMIs, including preparation of summary of findings and proposed adjustments, if required by the Rate Setting Manager or the Director of Rate Setting.

 

How do we do it?
We review nursing home cost reports to determine if the reported costs are reasonable, allowable, and properly reported, and we make reclassifications for errors and adjustments for any disallowed costs.

We take pride in safeguarding Medicaid and Medicare funds from fraud, waste, and abuse for state and federal taxpayers, which can allow funds to be appropriately spent in quality healthcare services needed elsewhere.
