GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

Cashiering: greet all guests as they enter the dining hall. Set up and break down dining hall food décor, maintain the organization and cleanliness of the dining area and front desk. Process payments with ID/meal cards, credit card and pre-authorized attendance lists. Post menus and signage. Implement department policies for take-out meals, serviceware and reusable to-go containers. Adhere to sanitation and food safety standards. Duties fluctuate between cashiering and prep cook as scheduled. Cross training is provided. Great customer service is a key element of this job.       

This is a bargaining unit position. Union dues are required.                                                              

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Cashier Duties:

  • Ensure all signage and menus are in their proper place and well-presented prior to opening for the meal period.  Ensure the cashier’s desk is neat and well presented. 
  • Greet every customer with a smile and a “welcome”.
  • Process payments and change at correct rates using ID/meal cards, and pre-authorized attendee lists.
  • Print reports for point of sale (POS) system and credit cards.
  • Wipe down tables and chairs throughout the meal period and at its conclusion, as well as picking up all remaining trash.
  • Maintain and restock condiments station, napkins, salt & pepper shakers, table tents and cashier’s desk.
  • Sweep and assist with mopping up of spills.
  • Complete daily additional cleaning duties as per weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Prepare dining room areas for regular pest control services.

Prep Cook Duties:

  • Prepare food by cutting and portioning meats, poultry and seafood.
  • Wash, peel and chop vegetables and fruits. Prepare sauces, dressings and basic condiments.
  • Use knife and equipment skills safely and effectively.
  • Ensure the prep station is clean, stocked, and ready before service.
  • Follow sanitation and safety protocols. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Help and assemble grab and go food items.

Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position and as assigned by management or supervisor.

Basic Qualification: High school diploma or GED; or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. At least six months of directly related experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with a heavy workload.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Must be friendly and have excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, including providing accurate change when needed.
  • Ability to learn to use the card swiping system. Solid mathematical skills.
  • Ability to follow and provide written and oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a diverse community of co-workers, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Awareness of the importance of sanitation standards for food safety. Follow safe food handling standards, proper sanitation and workplace safety. These include Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HAACP) guidelines, ServSafe and Personal Protective Equ
