JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing (Commission) seeks applicants for an Administrative Support Manager. This position serves as the Office Manager and Financial Manager for the agency and supports various other goals of the Commission.

The Commission is a legislative agency, with over a two-million-dollar operating budget, affiliated with the Sociology and Criminology Department at the Pennsylvania State University. The Commission is charged to create and maintain a consistent and rational statewide sentencing policy through the adoption of guidelines that promote fairer and more uniform decisions at sentencing, resentencing, and parole throughout the Commonwealth.

This position will manage all aspects of the Commission’s Administrative Unit, along with overall office operations for the University Park office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Handle all fiscal transactions through Penn State, Pennsylvania Treasury Department, along with all federal and state grants

  • Work with the Executive Director and the Executive Unit to establish, forecast, and manage the budget; reporting of Commission expenditures; maintain financial records; coordinate yearly audits; and all other financial decisions

  • Supervisor of full- and part-time administrative staff: interview, hire, train, and evaluate staff; determine workload priorities; develop and maintain office management procedures

  • Coordinate human resources functions for the agency (e.g., processing forms; liaising with Penn State Human Resources as needed)

  • Serve as Facilities Coordinator: monitor office space (recommending and coordinating changes as needed), maintain inventory of office equipment and make purchasing decisions, coordinate annual computer replacement with IT

  • Coordinate quarterly Commission meetings and ad hoc meetings as needed

  • Represent the Commission in various meetings and committees at the University level

  • Provide general support (e.g., purchases, human resources platforms, travel) to all other Unit Managers
