Position: Patient Care Technician (PCT)
Location: Alexandria, LA
Hours: Flexible Hours | Full Time
THE POSITION:
The Patient Care Technician supports the nursing team in providing daily care and assistance to children in the center, helping ensure a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment.
- Assists the nursing team in the delivery of routine child care activities.
- Performs assigned patient care tasks according to established standards of care and assists nurses with treatments and procedures as directed.
- Participates in data collection such as vital signs, weights, and specimen collection as assigned.
- Documents observations, interventions, and child responses in designated records.
- Reports any child or family concerns, changes in condition, or issues requiring further assessment to the designated Registered Nurse.
- Recognizes emergency situations and initiates CPR as trained.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of children and their families.
- Maintains a clean, safe environment; follows universal precautions and infection control practices; identifies and reports safety hazards to the designated Registered Nurse.
- Assists with specialized care needs, including children in isolation, as assigned.
- Participates in play, child development, and educational activities as directed.
- Accepts patient care assignments and center support duties or communicates concerns with the designated Clinical Manager.
- Attends team meetings, child care conferences, and in-services as required.
Nutrition & Daily Care Responsibilities:
- Prepares meals for children according to meal plans and individual nutritional needs.
- Labels, stores, and maintains food and formula supplies; checks expiration dates and disposes of expired items per guidelines.
- Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of feeding equipment, suction equipment, and related supplies per established procedures.
- Changes bed linens as scheduled and maintains laundry duties.
- Cleans and sanitizes beds, highchairs, swings, exam tables, mats, and other equipment daily and between children.
Center Support Duties:
- Assists with minor center and equipment upkeep and assembly as needed.
- Takes inventory of medical and center supplies; assists with restocking and organizing supplies.
- Completes daily logs and routines as outlined in Patient Care Technician and Therapeutic Play guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working with infants, toddlers, or children preferred.
- Previous healthcare, patient care, or child care experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary care team.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
