Description

Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) is seeking qualified dependable candidates work on a part-time basis to cover over night shifts, for our domestic violence services shelter. The hours vary depending on the coverage of shifts that are needed and the candidate's flexibility of hours they can work.


$16.00-$19.00 an hour depending on experience and education

Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate Sample Job Duties:

  • Provide crisis intervention, options and referrals to current and potential clients who are victims of domestic violence in order to provide a safe, secure, and appropriate environment. Interactions may be in person or on the phone.
  • Develop knowledge of local and state-wide community resources and establish working relationships with agencies for client referrals.
  • Act as an advocate for all clients, developing professional relationships with all clients that include treating all clients with respect and fairness, consistently implementing professional boundaries. Monitor individual progress toward goals, provide input at team meetings.
  • Ensure all quality improvement, written reports, critical incidents, intakes and exit reports are completed during each shift.
  • Assist and coordinate transportation of clients to and from goal and self-sufficiency related activities and appointments.
  • Maintain day-to-day operation of the program by implementing a trauma-informed care service delivery philosophy that is consistent with the individual client goals.
  • Maintain the overall appearance of the facility in order to provide a clean, safe and secure environment that allows clients an optimum place to grow.

Requirements

Associate degree in a human service-related field required, with demonstrated experience in crisis intervention, women's issues and victim advocacy. A bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social or human service-related field, preferred but not required. Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Strong ability to be compassionate and calm to work with clients who have experienced significant trauma is a requirement of the job. Ability to speak fluently in a second language is a plus!
