Job Summary

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Vice President, Legal Counsel – North America provides strategic legal oversight for our North American operations. This role is pivotal in driving business growth by managing contracting activities, supporting proposals and RFPs, handling claims and litigation, and ensuring compliance. You will lead negotiations for complex infrastructure project contracts and develop a high-performing legal team.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Negotiate and document complex infrastructure project contracts, including teaming agreements, joint ventures, and alternative delivery models (e.g., design-build, PPPs).

• Lead, build, and mentor the North America legal team, setting objectives and providing training to ensure high performance. This includes leveraging technology and our global resources to increase capacity and enhance contract review.

• Leadership and participation in North America risk committees.

• Advise executives and internal stakeholders on legal risks and regulatory issues, applying effective risk management strategies.

• Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

• Manage in-region legal matters and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.

• Provide strategic, proactive solutions to commercial challenges and opportunities that align with business objectives.

• Thought leadership on industry-specific legal developments and trends that impact our business.

• Perform additional legal functions as required.

Role Expansion

• Global risk committee management and leadership, including of policies and procedures.

• Global insurance program management in collaboration with other members of global legal and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) professional certification preferred but not required

• Law degree; active member of a U.S. State or Canadian Provincial bar. Engineering or management credentials are a plus.

• 15+ years in a commercial or project counsel role (in-house and/or private practice).

• Proven leadership in negotiating complex North American infrastructure contracts, including alternative delivery models.

• Experience leading, developing, and scaling in-house legal teams, including implementing policies, processes, using technology and developing innovative approaches to business problems.

• Strong presence, integrity, and ability to engage across all levels of the organization.

• Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and strategic thinking skills.

• Good teammate to members of the global legal department and other business colleagues

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build relationships across the enterprise and to gain and maintain credibility with internal and external partners.

• Willingness to travel as needed.

Additional Information

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $230,000 - $300,000 annually for this position and local market.
