Position Overview   

 

This position is accountable for supervision and preparation of the more complex in-house studies and plans for district highway projects, and supervising, reviewing, and evaluating consultant activities involved in the preparation of studies and plans for these improvements.

 

 

Essential Functions

• Ensures studies and plans prepared within the squad and by consultants are accurate, complete, and in compliance with design standards and specifications, as well as applicable laws and policies, and depict the most cost-effective designs for major projects.
• Provides liaison between the district Bureau of Program Development and consulting engineers on matters pertaining to highly complex transportation facility studies and plans.
• Motivates, trains, evaluates, and ensures the safety and well-being of subordinate personnel.
• Presents project studies to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at District Bi-Monthly Coordination meetings to seek concurrence on scope and environmental processing.
• Conducts public involvement activities that provide accurate information to the public, ensures that all public input is valued and results in a positive image of the district.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
• Four years of experience in civil engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction, and maintenance of public transportation systems.
• Ability to supervise the work of other engineers and technicians in preparing complete engineering plans and specifications.
• Ability to perform difficult technical research and make comprehensive recommendations on engineering problems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, and experience communicating with the pub
