The mission of the Microelectronics Research Center (MRC) at the University of Texas at Austin is to perform education, research and development in materials and electronic devices.  MRC is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI).  MRC is part of the top-ranked Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department, which is the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering with more than 2,100 students and 74 tenured and tenure-track faculty. Purpose

Provide comprehensive management, coordination, and operational support for the Microelectronics and Engineering Research Building (MERB) and its common areas to provide effective operational support for research and academic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all lab renovations in concert with Cockrell School personnel and faculty members, including renovations, equipment outfitting activities. Interfaces with Facilities Services, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), contractors, vendors, etc. Processes and manages Facilities Services work orders, point of contact for all renovations, including responsible for lab clean out, lab make ready and space inventory. Provide engineering support for the installation and commissioning of new lab equipment. Act as liaison to Facilities Services, and other interdepartmental entities, as well as outside contractors for facilities related issues. Coordinates all work orders with Facilities Services shops Plumbing, Locks and Keys, Electric, PMCS, Furniture, Events, Moving, etc.

  • Oversees building maintenance, repair and safety for the MERB and all common areas. Provide management and engineering support for maintenance, upgrades/modifications, and operation of the following systems in the MERB: Deionized water; Process Cooling Water; Clean Dry Air; House and Process Vacuum; Exhaust and air handling; Acid waste neutralization; Toxic gas monitoring; Toxic and other gas delivery; Chemical and gas distribution and inventory controls. Oversees infrastructure needs and troubleshoot building problems, ensures preventative building maintenance is managed, and prepares and submits work orders for repairs and renovations.  Plans and estimates time and materials requirements for project work.

  • Manages receiving area, to include shipping, receiving, and distribution of critical lab and departmental packages. Performs the maintenance of records, preparation of material orders, receipt, inspection and storing of electronic and mechanical components, supplies, test equipment, and the disbursement of supplies to the teaching labs and department constituents. Maintains a high degree of safety and security of all materials held within, according to protocols.

  • Responsible for space inventory and maintenance of space records.  Coordinates building access via Building Access Card System and serve as a point of contact for access issues.

  • Serve as a liaison with UT Environmental Health and Safety, Custodial Services, UTPD, and Emergency Management. Develops and maintains building-specific emergency preparedness protocols and trains staff accordingly.  Serves on the CSE safety committee and help ensures compliance with safety standards.

  • Manage and lead a group of approximately 10+ staff members. Act as building knowledgeable expert providing information to director, dean, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years' experience in mechanical, electrical, electronic equipment construction and maintenance of sophisticated equipment.

  • At least 2 years' supervisory experience.

  • Must be SCBA certified or obtain certification within 4 months of employment so that you can respond to building emergencies. Must be willing to serve on the
