Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Director or Senior Director of Financial Reporting, Planning and Analysis to help grow Pioneering Medicines finance capabilities within Flagship Pioneering.  In this role you will be an instrumental player responsible for driving the annual planning cycle across the Pioneering Medicines’ asset companies, providing business insights to our leaders to measure progress on company performance and enhancing companywide financial reports, including enhanced analytics, finance modeling, cash flow management and consolidated reporting. You will report to the Vice President, Finance, Pioneering Medicines in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the VP Finance to implement streamlined annual planning process incorporating PM functional and program needs taking into consideration External Partner review/approval requirements.
  • Responsible for execution of annual planning and development of annual plan within strict deadlines.  Collaborate with PM finance, functional and program leaders to ensure robust planning across the business unit.  Prepare executive level presentations for required approvals (both External Partners and internal FSP governance).
  • Refine the financial reporting process for the division, collaborate with the PM finance team to provide consistent reporting to Senior Management and Program leaders/managers. 
  • Lead the development of operational plans and modeling in alliance with the Program Managers and finance program lead to support new asset program generation from initial proposal and funding to on-going financial oversight. Own quarterly financial forecasts and development of Executive level reporting.
  • Partner with PM and FSP analysts to develop and analyze models for valuations and exit strategies for asset companies.
  • Evaluate system needs for PM division and partner with VP Finance, FSP Finance Operations for implementation of appropriate tools to support the PM division.  
  • Develop, evolve, and publish regular KPI/metric reporting to track results and identify key business trends.
  • Develop and analyze historical cost data by program to provide insights to finance and program managers to develop robust program budgets.
  • Provide Ad-Hoc reporting and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

    • 10+ years of financial planning and analysis experience
    • Life sciences / biotechnology industry required.
    • Accounting experience a plus
    • BS/BA in accounting or finance; MBA preferred.
    • Strong business acumen: proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization in financial terms.
    • Excellent project management / leadership skills with demonstrated track record and ability to engage teams to work together towards common deadlines.
    • Strong presentation skills to deliver recommendations succinctly and effectively to senior leaders, frames complex concepts.
    • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions.
    • Exceptional attitude, attention to detail and ability to motivate teams to do the same.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional team members and with external partners.
    • Works within and meets all deadlines while executing on multiple deliverables.
    • Experience with NetSuite a plus.
    • Flexible, personable team-player, comfortable in a fast-paced, small company environment.
    • Proven ability to set and meet ambitious deadlines, handle numerous multifaceted financial matters and see projects through to conclusion.
    • Strong written and verbal communication
