Job Description

 

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for creating the vision and strategy for the Mechanical Department’s Car and Locomotive digital transformation initiatives.  This includes development and implementation of objectives and key results to drive projects from vision to deliverables ensuring they align with the corporate strategy.  This role is a leader and is comfortable operating in both technical and operations environments.  This includes managing the Product Owners, providing direction and work prioritization for SAP based mobile and desktop software development.  Serve as a liaison between business and technical aspects of multiple projects.  Manage execution and implementation of software rollout and organization change management practices for car and locomotive.  Leverages car and locomotive shop experience to focus technology solutions to the right benefits for the field.
 
Provide leadership to a team of Senior Product Owners in an agile software development environment.  Provide direction and prioritization for multi-million-dollar software enhancement projects to transform the Mechanical department.  Work with external business stakeholders across all departments to ensure software development is successful while collaborating with senior leaders in designing and driving project plans to achieve identified improvements.
 
Principal Duties:
•    Define the product vision for Enterprise Asset Management platforms across the business to support car and locomotive operations and maintenance, metrics and data reporting.
•    Gain a deep understanding of the end user experience and business pain points, identify gaps and generate new ideas to drive productivity and efficiency to the end user.
•    Work closely with the IT development team to build scalable solutions to support business growth and development towards predictive maintenance.
•    Generate regular reports and dashboards to communicate progress and results to senior management to drive product success.
•    Translate business strategy into detailed requirements. Lead the planning, scoping, and priorities of our project to achieve the goals set.
•    Provide leadership and oversight of automation projects to meet established schedules.   
•    Work with NS IT team to advance digital transformation car and locomotive projects by imparting overall digital vision and setting value-based portfolio prioritization while meeting established milestones and enhancing processes.
•    Actively engage external business process owners, subject matter experts (SMEs) and stakeholders to obtain input/feedback, support in organization change management and make timely decisions to advance the digital transformation initiatives.
•    Manages to groom backlogs, sprint plan, lead demos, retrospectives, and daily standups.  Write clear and concise requirements and user stories, prioritize development items, and coordinate schedules with data science and engineering teams.
•    Lead Quarterly PI Planning events by providing future release prioritization, vision for product, and timeline for completion to user execution.
•    Groom program backlog and help with the program overall roadmap.
•    Use data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for monitoring process efficiency for car and locomotive operations.

  • Minimum Level:  6-10 years
  • Preferred Level:  11-15 years

Skills

Education:

  • Preferred Level:  Bachelor's Degree (BS)
  • Preferred Majors: BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering and Management, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering (all disciplines).

  • Preferred:  Agile Scrum Product Owner, ICP/APO, SAFe-5 Agilist
