About the role

The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) and the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applicants for a Finance Generalist. Finance Generalists are hybrid positions, responsible for a variety of professional-level work across various financial disciplines. They possess a solid financial background, either gained through work experience or education, which allows them to assume a wide range of duties across multiple areas, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Finance Generalists work on behalf of a program, function, or department, independently executing a range of financial responsibilities, based on the organization's needs.  This position will give the future incumbent the opportunity to grow their knowledge and support the department with grants administration. 

The CDT is directed by Boris Kovatchev, PhD, a world-renowned researcher in the field of Diabetes, algorithm development and data science. Dr. Kovatchev is a regular lecturer at Universities and Conferences throughout the US and Europe.  He is actively involved with Center projects and with the direction and education of all post-doctoral candidates. With substantial NIH funding, the Center led and successfully completed the three largest randomized Artificial Pancreas (AP) clinical trials in the World to date, including a pivotal trial aiming for regulatory clearance of a new AP System (that included the algorithm program developed at the Center), published on October 16, 2019 in the New England Journal of Medicine.  For more information visit: https://med.virginia.edu/diabetes-technology/

The successful candidate will be expected to:
•    Develop and implement accurate, timely, and complete budget and accounting documents, spreadsheets, and templates.
•    Develop and provide financial forecasts. Reconcile forecasts to actual results. Complete all related University requirements and submittals, adhering to department and institutional standards and timelines.
•    Serve as representatives for the organization in wider institutional finance initiatives. Serve on committees and attend standing meetings. Participate in training sessions to keep apprised of changes in policy and procedures.
•    Oversee the preparation of purchase orders and payment vouchers. Ensure that bills are paid promptly so the department complies with the University's requirements. Responsible for resolving any discrepancies with vendors as needed.
•    Track fund accounts, special projects, or tasks to ensure appropriate entries are made and monitor the account balances.
•    Maintain financial records for department funds, following University and departmental policies and procedures, and maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
•    In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
•    Assist COO and Sr. Financial Generalist with Grant administration and management tasks as necessary.
 

Qualified candidates must have:
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: At least two years of experience. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

•    Highly organized. 
•    Excellent written, verbal, and Interpersonal communication skills.
•    Ability to adapt to changing and competing priorities. 
•    Attention to detail.
•    Problem-solving skills.
•    Desire to learn Grant Administration and Management tasks. 
•    Ability to independently manage workload.
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. 

The Finance Generalist will report to the Senior Financial Generalist, Emilee Kiesel, and will work closely with Harry G.
