WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Director of Learning & Development for the New York regional team, you will primarily be responsible for the strategy, design, and execution of our major group learning events for our 400+ person teaching corps, including professional development for our first- and second-year corps members (our language for teachers), and our summer intensive training called practicum. This includes working closely with our coaching team to set learning objectives for each event, grounded in our arc of corps member learning, and collaborating with coaches to then design the sessions that meet those goals.
You will laterally manage our team to execute the events throughout the year, including direct management of seasonal operational staff in the summer who will lead operations at each practicum school partner site. Your events will improve the corps member experience to help continue to foster community across our network while also deepening our corps members’ abilities as teacher leaders. You are organized, detail- and system-oriented, excelling at executing complex projects and managing others to outcomes.
The ideal candidate for this role will value and enjoy the challenge of creating learning experiences for adult learners while working across a large and complex team. You will enjoy anticipating problems, excel at working collaboratively with teammates while leading with purpose and vision, and bring empathy and care to our programming as we support corps members in their learning and professional development.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Plan, Design, and Execute on Group Learning Vision for New York Corps (50%)
Set vision on a CM arc of learning for the NY region to ensure alignment between all group learning events for teacher development across the participant continuum (incoming corps member, teacher, and alum).
Leverage the NY coaching team, regional team, and community partners to facilitate sessions (virtual and in-person) for corps member learning and development throughout the year, including regional all corps events, incoming corps member immersion days, and other professional development offerings
Develop and manage the planning for a successful summer pre-service, including virtual sessions and in-person regional induction and practicum. Contextualize national offerings for the NY region, including but not limited to regional customization of pre-service calendar, regional induction events, and preparation for the academic year.
Hiring, Management, and Development of Staff (20%)
Hire and train a seasonal summer team to manage the operational systems for 300 corps members and staff members during a seven-week summer pre-service event (including both virtual and in-person training)
Directly manage at least five SOMs (school operations managers), who throughout the summer will run the operations of their practicum school site.
Program Strategy and Operations (15%)
Ensure New York coaches and regional team members have a clear understanding of the corps member participant journey, with a focus on culture and experience
Support the overall operations of group learning with clear oversight of each event’s budget, calendar, and other responsibilities (communications, etc.)
Manage and streamline the panel-creating process for the region at events to ensure strong panelist sourcing, preparation for panelists and moderators, and long-term knowledge management for the region as part of our ability to engage current CMs, alums, and partners.
Teamwork and All Staff Expectations (15%)
Participate in all-staff (region and organization-wide) activities and events, including interviewing corps members, attending regional and organization-wide team meetings and retreats, and volunteering to support projects outside your scope of work.
Adherent to all deadlines, action items, and structures to support the work of our regional team
